1.0 out of 5 stars Not even the same words!
Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2019

Forget about the font size did anybody read the actual book? It’s not just the short version. Check out the end of chapter 8 this is a direct quote from the Kindle version. “Doodle-computer virus, doodle-worm, tell me what I want to realize! Doodle-computer virus, doodle-laptop virus, inform me what I need to recognize!”

I'm pretty sure MR. Twain didn’t know about computer viruses and laptops. WT heck is happening to our classical literature? Nowhere in the advertisements or in the book does it allude to changing the words from the original text. Anyone who gets this book needs to contact Amazon and complain immediately. This needs to get taken out of circulation!

5.0 out of 5 stars SEAWOLF PRESS makes classics look like a first edition!

I don't need to write a review of the story of Tom Sawyer but it is worth mentioning that the publisher, SEAWOLF PRESS made this copy a pleasure to own. It's a first class publication using quality paper, beautiful sketches in each chapter that are clear, refined and properly placed to enhance the particular chapter. The font size is just right for me. It's a beautiful book and one that I will not be giving away.

1.0 out of 5 stars TERRIBLE FORMATTING!
Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2017

Wish I would have read the one star reviews. This book is the size of a magazine, has no page numbers, and is poorly formatted (one page will have text half-way down, and then it continues on the next page. Some dialogue is also formatted incorrectly. ) The formatting is so bad, it interrupts the flow of the book I have taken good formatting for granted until I bought a book with terrible formatting (this one.) I will be purchasing all of my books from a legitimate publishing house next time.

1.0 out of 5 stars DELETE THIS JUNK BOOK FROM AMAZON!!!

This is a HORRIBLE version of Tom Sawyer! It has been incorrectly translated or transcribed into the e-book . Has anyone at AMAZON even looked at it? LOOK AT IT! TRY TO READ IT! Then take it out of your book listings. It is mumbo jumbo garbage. I had to buy another version to enjoy this classic.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bait and Switch
Reviewed in the United States on August 21, 2020

I haven't read this Kindle edition yet. What I am reviewing is Amazon's bait-and-switch scheme to get me to buy it for $2.99 instead of the $0.00 edition I ordered. This book, of course, is long since out of copyright. But besides that, I ordered a Kindle edition that had no cost. To verify this, I would point out that Amazon never asked me to okay a payment. Whenever I order a product from Amazon (which I do frequently), a page comes up asking me what credit card I want to use for payment, and I confirm the payment in that way. No such page ever came up for this purchase, for a very good reason: there was not supposed to be a charge. But when I finally received confirmation of my order (the next day, by the way, which is suspicious because my order confirmations are always sent right away), a $2.99 charge had been applied to it - presumably to whatever card THEY chose to charge it to. My call to customer service was wholly unhelpful, but I would caution others about buying these "free" Kindle editions.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Mark Twain's Tom Sawyer?
Reviewed in the United States on August 17, 2019

Surely this is a bad joke. If you want Twain's Tom Sawyer, this is not it. The text is frequently and widely corrupted from the original. These are not mere 'typos'; the text is often virtually unreadable. How on earth has it been concocted? Through some mechanical thesaurus? One example of many: how does the original "Can’t learn any old dogs new tricks, as the saying is." get turned into "Can’t research an vintage canine new hints, because the saying is."
Surely this should not be sold as Twain. It doesn't deserve the one star.

1.0 out of 5 stars So what was the topic?

I mostly enjoy these books, but this one is not my cup of tea. Even though I read this through and through, I absolutely was not into the plot. Waiiit, allow me to rephrase that. I didn't even think this book is complete. It is hard to read and understand if the book doesn't even have the basics of writing. I honestly thought the book is boring and more tiring to read as it went, the only thing that made me read this whole book was becase it was my bookclub book. I would've tossed my kindle away from me or read a comic or fantasy. I this feels like there is a edited version of this book. I liked the push for the start, but after that, KABOOM I dont know what was happening. I would just like to say that this book was tiring and boring, and I am NOT looking forward the series at all. It was like, as if there is a complete version of this book and it felt like a sample to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Child's Quixote...

No doubt this is one of North America's classics due to its scope and enjoyability. A bildungsroman that depicts clearly the mind of a child of the times; The Adventures of Tom Sawyer will have any reader find delight in the simplicity of times past. Its main character's problematic conduct leads him to the most astonishing adventures and problems that only good will may help him avoid. Amazing and fun since the very first page. The source and father of many books in Latin America, the one that comes to my mind: "El juguete rabioso".

3.0 out of 5 stars One of my childhood books... but rubbish print
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 12, 2020

After more than 30 years I still remember at dialogue level parts of this book, despite of the fact I read it in a foreign language. Mark Twain is a classic. I bought it for my 10 years old son and he read it in two days. Brilliant book and will recomend to any child. However, 4 stars due to the printing material not the book itself (which is 10 stars). It was printed on very chap paper similar with the ordinary ASDA multipourpouse copy paper. If anyone read tis review I advise you 100% to buy this book but not this printed version. If you can find a better quality is a book to have it for generations in your library.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's Mark Twain..

I went for the Everyman's Library hardcover edition.. Because I am a book collector and I really enjoy buying such amazing and beautiful books. The book was in great condition.
This book contains two best works of Mark Twain.. Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. Thought this edition is quite expensive but it totally worth it. The pages are thick and are intact.. And they are really soft. It would really look in the book shelves and those who love legit children's adventure books.. Then it is a must.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful pocketable edition of a book full of great children’s adventure stories and fun.

This is a superb little edition of this great book. The Book is beautifully produced with a hard back binding and nice thin paper.
Very easily carried in a pocket.
However, if you haven’t read the book itself, I recommend it. Great stories, full of boyhood adventure, imagination and fun. All children should read this book and the follow up Adventure of Huckleberry Finn.
It also nicely introduces subjects which it is good to discuss sensibly with young people without getting into hysterics.

This is not what Mark Twain wrote. It is a computerised translation and what is readable is nonsense. I persevered through the whole book hoping that it would improve, but alas, it did not.

5.0 out of 5 stars Giving weight to the five star reviews
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on September 13, 2011

These are brilliant stories, great adventures as well as painting a vivid picture of life in the southern slave states. Full of witty detail and packed with a whole variety of hugely entertaining episodes. I write this just to boost the star ratings which are ridiculously low for such great books. I've just got a new Kindle and I'm starting off by downloading some old favourites. Pride and Prejudice of course had to be first. Next this.
As for the debate about language, to change the words would be to miss the whole point and distort history. To me the books give a clear message that slavery is wrong and the bad words are put into the mouths of people who would have known no other words to use. I haven't persuaded my children to read these yet but maybe they've read too many Rainbow Fairies and vampire romance books (actually I really enjoyed Twilight!) to enjoy the classics! Don't think these are boring dry books like some classics can be though, they are alive and exciting.
