I have all four of these books. I picked up "Mum's the Word" because I was looking for a new mystery series, but I have since stopped looking because I found it. Kate Collins' flower shop mysteries are delightful. Many previous reviewers of "Mum's the Word" found it annoying, but the only thing I've found annoying is Abby's cousin Jillian. I think Collins' characters are delightful. I love that Abby's assitant Grace has a quote for everything, and her mother creates horrid anatomically correct sculptures. I love the descriptions of the flowers and the witty banter of the characters. Overall the best thing about this series is that while we have an abundance of amateur sleuth mysteries, Collins' doesn't use the same old tired, recycled plot lines I have found in many books. I agree that the first one was a little slow going, but the books get better and better as you go. I highly recommend this series.
This book will appeal to Janet Evanovitch fans who appreciate a ditzy sweet heroine with a hunky male to assist her in her amateur investigations. Of course there will be moments when you want to shake flower shop owner Abby Knight who never considers the consequences of her actions. You also will want to suggest that she tells her mother that she won't make the obligatory family dinner this week and doesn't want to hang around her ex-fiance.
Abby's employees are interesting, her roommate is delightful and even the romantic undertones are cute. In fact I think CUTE is the operative word for this book. This isn't a serious mystery and sometimes the clues are too obvious, but it is a nice addition to the "young businesswoman/sleuth" genre. If you don't take it too seriously you'll enjoy the adventure.
Wow, I stumbled upon this series while looking for something different to read this summer. I was not disappointed at all. This is a lively and fun series with plenty of humor and mystery to keep you reading into the night, with a splash of romance thrown in for good measure. Can't wait for the next book.
Other the wanting to strangle the meddling main character, this book is a fun mystery. This is the second Flower Shop Mystery that I have read. I like the series so far. Zany characters, good mystery story, makes these novel a charming read.
This book, the second in a pleasant series installed quickly into my reader, was easy to read, the image was good quality. Now I don't have to look for someone to donate the used book to. I might read another in the series someday.
