It's a mess. First, the title is "Carver" so my expectation was it would be about, well, Carver. The first chapter was about him and it was actually a good start. Then we get Kirk and Monique and I thought it was going to be the twist in the story but it didn't happen that way. A chapter that read more like an epilogue as they were all "settled" followed by a seemingly misplaced chapter and several chapters that just did not make sense or belong and I am left with a headache and wondering what the heck happened, not just to the story, but to Carver who has become a secondary character. It's as if there were two, maybe even three, novellas, that were cobbled together. This is where a good editor would have come in handy. Or, in my case, a couple of good pain relievers.
The story had possibilities, but what a muddled confusing mess it turned out to be. There was almost an entire chapter was out of place. Super confusing. Then it went back to the rest of the story and left out and out of place section
Overall, I enjoy shifter stories. However, the authors of Simply Shifters tend to rush their work to press and omit the niceties like correct word usage and other pesky grammatical things.
The first half was great (skipping the sex scenes which were filthy). Starting with chapter 9 the story became confusing. It’s only later in the book that you figure out where chapter 9 even comes from. The last half is disjointed skipping time and moving around without any pointers for the reader. No dates at the beginning of changing chapters or anything. This book definitely left me feeling “blah”. At the cliffhanger ending, I didn’t even know if I wanted to continue reading what must be a series. However, there were the surprising plot twists that somewhat redeemed the story.
Great book the twist and turns of this book were spellbinding. This book has it all action ,adventure and wildness. Who but someone from New Orleans would be strong enough to shift into multiple animals. This book was so hard to put down, right who am I kidding I didn't.This is a great ride from beginning to end. Can't wait for the next book so want to know who she ends up with her heart or her desire hmmm.
I absolutely loved the story.....but please consider an edit. The story kind of goes of track at the beginning of chapter 9 then shifts back to what should have come next after 8. Then chapter 10 well review it you'll see what I mean. After that fix I'd give it a 5!
Little off the wall storyline with fragmented characters, that at times I felted incomplete in storytelling. Angela, I've have read other novels of yours and know you could do better. I like the creative idea of a guardian who is chosen by a child super shifter to protect them. An in turns the guardian develop into multiple shifters to protect the child. But, it felt short and was subdued in so many ways.
It is not always possible to judge a book by what is on the summary. But I am glad that I bought this book. there was a plot, and many questions were answered. There were a few things that I had a problem with. I would have liked more information about the guardian and how she/he is chosen. Also what happened to Monique,Paul and Carver.otherwise not a waste of time nor money. I found this book enjoyable.
It's not often this happens, but I hated this book. I did finish it, but I thought it was unbelievable, confusing....just not good at all. World was not built well, story line did not flow, a lot of confusion and WTF, how did we get here????
Will NOT read this again, would like to remove it from my brain.
