5.0 out of 5 stars I loved him in Out of the Box Awakening, and I loved him here.

Todd O'Malley...I loved him in Out of the Box Awakening, and I loved him even more in Toccata Obbligato ~ Serenading Kyra.
I hopped over to his story after reading Ms. Theriot's first book in the series, Out of the Box Awakening. In that book, we meet Todd as he becomes a best friend of sorts to Olivia as she transitions in her new life in a northern suburb of Chicago. An up and coming rock star with some body art in more than the typical places, Todd is an awesome character. He's a great friend and a loving grandson. He has a sensitive side. He's also quite sexual and has a habit of stringing F-bombs together and using them for every part of speech in the same sentence. But when he meets Kyra, a student at Northwestern...Oh, my! You know the saying: Opposites attract. Boy do they attract. Then crash.

There is more to this story than the romance, the split, and the finding their way back to each other. I love the messages that make this story more. This is not a story of hard drugs or lots of sex with the groupies. This is Todd and Kyra's story. It's a short, perfectly sized novella that gives the reader a little more of Todd O'Malley, and I loved it. Heading back to the series now. There are a lot more characters, and I need to read their stories.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, sexy, touching novella

Todd was a favorite from the Out of the Box series. He is a burgeoning rock star, who has lost those close to him and has a surrogate mother in Olivia. He has fallen for Kyra, and his challenge is to believe that he's worth loving and that he isn't going to lose everyone he loves. And then there is the sexy Skype scene.

This is his POV novella. It's reads offers a shortened version of some of the events from Out of the Box Regifted, so this can be read as a standalone, but it is better if you read the first two books in the series.

I would have liked it to have been a bit longer and not resolve the situation so quickly. I'd like to have had more time to get to know Todd and Kyra.

5.0 out of 5 stars Crazy Little Thing Called Love.... done in superb fashion by Theriot!

As often happens with me, I read this book before reading its predecessor. Didn't really matter as the story kicks off and I knew from the get-go this author would hold my attention as she has no fear when it comes to using expletives.
After all, scenarios with rock stars simply can't be painted without the realism that is their life.
Told in the POV of bad boy, rocker, Todd, readers are given a glimpse into his psyche to understand even those who live the so-called glam life, have their own struggles.
I enjoyed the character Olivia - his "mother-like" friend, whom he relies on for real advice. She is a character I want to know better. And I'm fairly sure all readers fell in love with Kyra, the sweet college girl who wins Todd's heart. Powerful connection, that had me rooting for a favorable outcome.

Gotta tell ya, I rarely read YA, but the emotional undercurrent of TO took me back in time... in a grin-filled way. The musical references put me in a wonderful state of mind as I read this emotional roller-coaster story & here's an old song title most of you won't know: True Love Travels on a Gravel Road. Yeah, I read this "out of order', but this 2nd book has me Jonesin for tor its prequel. Terrific!

PS....This author writes explicit love scenes that are sensual as all get out!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not the book I expected

I purchased this book because of the rock star hook. I was totally surprised when I read it. It was nothing like what I expected. Don't get me wrong, it's a nice, sweet romance but I had no idea this book was YA. I was certainly expecting something far more adult.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a fast-paced love story about an Adam Levine look alike rock star ...

This is a fast-paced love story about an Adam Levine look alike rock star named Todd and the girl of his dreams, a student named Kyra. Their relationship has its ups and downs and, ultimately, Todd takes the advice of his best friend - the beautiful Olivia, whom I'd already come to love from Jennifer Theriot's other books. Does he follow his heart?

It grabbed my attention from the beginning (watch out for Todd's F bombs!) and kept it all the way through. I read it in about an hour!

Jennifer Theriot has the writing chops to make you see these characters as REAL people whom you care about. I love her style that just seems to flow out of her. In my opinion, SHE'S a rock star! Buy it, devour it, and read more of her books!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Todd's POV

I loved this inside look at Todd and Kyra's relationship. Readers got part of the story in the Out of the Box novels but hearing Todd's perspective was refreshing. The tough rocker is really a romantic at heart and true to Olivia's words, when he met his soul mate he immediately knew. I think there is more to the story and having read book three of the trilogy, I was left wondering about the outcome of the video and Kyra's parents. I enjoy these characters and a deeper look at this younger couple filled in some of the gaps in the trilogy but opened more questions. So here's hoping there is more on the horizon for these characters.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great quick read!

Great quick read! Nice mixture of romance and the truest feelings and thoughts unedited, meaning what the character thinks is what you read! Todd is a rock star who has led the rockstar life and gets slammed by fate when Kyra shows up in the same coffee shop. Love whipped him and he had to fight to get her live and prove he was worth it. No spoilers here...but a good read! I plan to read the entire story as this is just a slice of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm impressed

Aren't rock stars also just humans? I asked myself that question many times and I see that Jennifer Theriot has given this also some thought. Her bad ass rock star is tired of the groupies and the meaningless lays. Enter Kyra, who doesn't even know who he is and you have a recipe for romance with an intriguing and thoughtful setting.
Writing this from his perspective rather than the female, Theriot has pulled off a realism I didn't expect after reading her other Out of the Box novels.
This was entertaining, heart-warming and sexy. A brilliant addition to her series and proof of her talent as an author. Very impressive

2.0 out of 5 stars Lacked depth of character

Well I'm not sure what to say about this novella, the reviews were good, I read it in no time and although the story was promising it didn't really show any depth. Todd is a rocker with the typical rocker lifestyle but he's bored of it. He looking for his soul mate and when he meets Kyra he knows it's her, but will his past always get in the way of his future.
This was a short read, and although the plot is not original it had promise unfortunately I didn't think it reached the kind of empathy required for a romance where you feel for the lead character. The writing lacked depth of character, it was too wooden and the love story was too quick. Obviously it had plenty of angst, the sex was, well too short and no descriptions, the romance was ok. It was an ok read but not a story I would have paid for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rocker Romance from the Rocker's POV

I grabbed this because I liked the cover and it had good reviews. I immediately connected with Todd O'Malley and found this a refreshing and different look at the life of a rock star. He's definitely a ladie's man who got himself in a bind with his careless lifestyle. He finally meets the girl of his dreams - totally his opposite. I laughed out loud at his antics and loved when he bared his soul, showing that he does have a good side...a quick but emotionally capturing book written from the male POV. Loved this book! You won't regret reading this one....
