Davis Way, intrepid lead investigator for the undercover team at the Bellissimo Casino, should be loving her life right about now. After all, she is newly married to the man of her dreams, and she has an amazing job. Really, what’s not to love? Well…for one thing, the living arrangements. Davis and her casino manager husband are stuck living at the casino in a haunted apartment that looks like the (according to Davis) “Big Easy Flea Market” complete with indoor fake balconies and the biggest non-working refrigerator ever seen. Then, Holder Darby, the special events coordinator, suddenly quits and disappears, and her many responsibilities are given to Davis. Of course, those things pale in comparison when Davis finds out that 4 million dollars worth of platinum coins have been stolen from the Bellissimo vault and her husband Bradley is the only one on site with the key. Davis is convinced there is a connection between the haunted apartment, the missing coordinator and the stolen coins, and she sets out to prove it.
Davis is such a great character. She is a master of disguise and knows her way around a computer. She is smart, savvy, and thinks outside the box. She does whatever it takes to get the job done, which makes for a really entertaining read. The author has surrounded the protagonist with a great cast of secondary characters. The rapid-fire dialogue is funny and believable.
The only problem with reading this book in one sitting (which I did) is now I have to wait (a really long time—hear me whine—LOL) for the next one. I do recommend this book. If you like well-written stories with great characters, an interesting plot, and lots of humorous dialogue, give this series a try. Happy reading!
