4.0 out of 5 stars LINDSAY'S LIFE IS FILLED WITH SURPRISES - SOME ARE NOT GREAT SURPRISES

Lindsay is a chaplain at a hospital in the coastal area of North Carolina.

Her best friend, Anna , is about to marry and Lindsay is a maid of honor. They will have a quiet and joyful wedding on the Outer Banks. At the same time, Lindsay will be able to spend Christmas with the aunt who took her in when her parents went to prison.

Lindsay had an interesting life as a child and since then too.

Life is filled with plans that never work out as expected.

Anna's wedding is high jacked by her mother and it ruins everything for everyone. Rob has lied to his Taiwanese mother and now Lindsay and he must pretend to be husband and wife. Lindsay's criminal mother shows up in a most unexpected time and place and she may have brought a murderer with her. Lindsay has broken up with Warren, the love of her life. As bad as her childhood was for Lindsay, she is finding family secrets that knock her for a loop. How could the past being so many questions to today?

And then there is a murder.

This is the first book I have read by this author. She writes with humor and humanity.

It is funny and fast moving and kept me interested from beginning to end. There are mysteries and danger and of course character development.

Lindsay and all her friends are very entertaining. Even people she has known forever can be surprising. Underneath it all, Lindsay is trying to do the right thing for everyone. She even ends up living with Kipper ( or is it Paul), a Doberman with an attitude.

If you enjoy a mystery with humor, this is a book you will like.

Picks up shortly after #1 ends....or does it? Seemed like I read 6 months had passed, but then it kept saying last summer...so maybe 18 months had passed? Can't be right. Must be 6 months. Warren and Lindsay are a couple, and Anna and Drew are about to get married...in a town called Duck in OBX (North Carolina). She intends to stay with her aunt while there, since it's over the Christmas break anyway and her dad is homebound with his injury. Quigley takes this opportunity to delve into Lindsay’s unusual upbringing, with the aunt and the parents in jail and Simmy, her aunt's friend who Lindsay remembers from her childhood. The villain from book one reappears, as does Lindsay's mother. I'd say this was less mystery and more background info, but it's still a fascinating read. Don't get me wrong--there's not NO MYSTERY; it's just not in the foreground...it just serves as filler for the background info, which in itself is rather mysterious.

In the end, Lindsay ends up with a Doberman, a great grandmother, and a repaired relationship w/Warren.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good Read

A good follow up to the first in the series. Lindsay is once again in harms way because of her mother. Her relationship with Warren is in trouble and so is her friendships with Anna and Rob. The mystery was good but I found the backstory to be 1.) obvious and 2.) a little too convenient. The way the whole backstory was revealed was kind of a let down. But otherwise the story was a good one and I am glad I read it. I am looking forward to the next one and hope to see the relationship with Lindsay and Warren continue to develop. There was a hint that maybe a new love interest could be introduced for Lindsay. I hope that doesn't happen - he seems like a terrible match for Lindsay. Warren is the right man for Lindsay - they both just need some time to get their priorities straight.

To be the second of a series, this book is well thought out, moves swiftly, and is full of twists. Hospital chaplain Lindsey Harding has a meeting with her past as she returns to the aunt who raised her for a Christmas visit. While also on the Outer Banks to take part in a wedding of a close friend, it wasn't expected to be a relaxing week. But when her estranged mother turns up at her aunt's house and she is bombarded with family secrets, it will be anything but relaxing. A murder investigation followed b y another death too close to home, and the sudden realization that her own life may well be in danger spins this tale way out of control for a petite chaplain who isn't sure where to turn for help. An outstanding book by this author.

Lindsay is a mess. She is a hospital chaplain who gets drunk, takes the Lord's name in vain; among other things not fitting for a minister. Her boss is a chaplain and is gay. Not my idea of examples of ministers. I stated all this in my first review of book 1. The mystery was good, so I decided to read this one. This story is a bit better. Lots of things going on; lots of secrets revealed. Talk about dysfunctional families....If the author changed their professions from ministers to something else, for me, this could be a 4 or 5-star book. MY OPINION.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even better than the first book

Wow! At first I want sure what direction the story was headed in, and then things fell into place and raced off. The story was intriguing and before I knew it, it was over. That's the sign of a good story...that you get so caught up in it that you don't even realize the pages and chapters are flying by. It's good to get to know the characters better and to meet a few new ones. Can't even imagine what mischief Lindsay is going to find in the next book but I'll be there to find out!

It took me a bit of time to get into the storyline, but after I caught on to who was who, I really got into the story. I tend to read books from beginning to end in one sitting, but had to wait on the last chapter overnight.... Difficult!! While the storyline had it's share of twists and turns, I really thought I had it all figured out as I approached the end. Not even close..... Well worth the time it took to read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Warning, character under development

It was a good read...the pros and cons is that the author is developing this character and it shows. There are times the main character makes choices or take actions that at least got me thinking "Really?" Got a bit too dark at points for my idea of a "cozy" but well written with a great sense of place. I may have to stay at a resort in Duck sometime!

4.0 out of 5 stars The wedding that nearly wasn't

Another great solid cozy. Has her dry spell in the love department over? Attending a friend's wedding brings her back into contact with a member of her family that she hasn't seen in years. Add in a psychopath, her crime addicted mother, a rising body count, secrets from the past and a bridal party from hell and you have a great read. Slightly more gritty than the normal cozy. So if you enjoy gentle cozies then this is not for you. However it is a great fast paced ride if you enjoy gritty reads.
