4.0 out of 5 stars Exciting start to a serial

Exposed was a very short, quick read, part 1 of 8, which will be written by four different authors. This one introduces Special Agent Lara Grant who has just come out of hiding after taking down a notorious crime ring by working undercover. On her first day back working with her old boss but a new team and a new partner, she is involved in a shooting which seems to be related to the syndicate she helped to put away. Another murder follows, and it becomes clear that Lara may be targeted personally.
I really enjoyed this fast paced and exciting story. There is obviously a lot more to Lara and to her new partner Nick. Interesting characters with secrets and trust issues, and although I'm not a fan of entertainment in short installments, I enjoyed the story and the writing so much that I am willing to follow this serial to see where it goes.
I received an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a great mystery suspense book that I've read in a long time. It leaves you on the edge of your seat. Lara is an FBI agent who is just trying to get back into the game from being undercover for a year and in a safe house for a year. When you take down a big crime boss some things you can't hide from. Can't wait to read more in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed reading the 8 part series of "Tough Justice Exposed"

I enjoyed reading the 8 part series of "Tough Justice Exposed"; however I feel that I was ripped off. Part 1 was free and Parts 2 & 3 were .99 each. I mistaken assumed (error on my part) that parts 2 - 8 would all be .99. Parts 4 - 7 were $1.99 each and parts 7 & 8 were $2.99 each making my total for the book to be $13.93. That is way too much for the 8 part books (each book was not that long. I will not order any future books that are a series like this.

A thriller case and a special FBI unit to try and stop the criminals. An agent who has been mentally damaged by her previous experiences. Good book definitely makes you want to read more.

I WANTED TO READ FROM 1ST TO LAST BUT THE LIBRARY DIDN'T HAVE THEM ALL. I'D HAVE PREFERRED IF THERE WAS ONLY ONE WRITER AS THERE ISN'T THAT MUCH CONTINEUITY PLUS SOME WERE LONG AND SOME WERE EXTREMELY SHORT.

This was my first time reading a suspense serial and it was incredibly gripping. The author got me interested from the very first scene and I couldn't put the story down. I haven't read the rest of the series yet, but if they're anything like this one, I'll be blazing through them! Great choice for readers who like fast, interesting crime fiction.

I misunderstood and thought this was book one in a new series. It is actually part one so to get the whole story you have to buy the other 7. It is off to a good start, but I really don't want to continue buying it part by part.

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely an 'EPISODE' not the first in a series of stories on a theme. AND each episode is written by a different author?

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS JUST AN EPISODE OF THE FULL STORY, DO NOT READ IT AS A STAND ALONE NOVEL IN A SERIES AS THERE IS DEFINITELY NO ENDING TO THIS EPISODE!
Well written and the story is good BUT Carla Cassidy only writes the first and last episode so I have no idea what the authors between are like, I'm suspecting the worst and not sure if I'll invest in the complete book as this free fist chapter may well be being used as a hook.
It'll be good if it does continue in the same style but how so with different authors writing sections of the same story.
Many of the so called 'series' of books available on electronic media are not a series but continuing stories through each book, they look cheap but add up the total cost of the set and they are all usually quite short so you still only get a regular size novel in the end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great opener to a series

This is Part 1 in an 8 part series of books following the character of FBI Agent Lara Grant and although it is fairly short and a quick read, it certainly packs a lot of information and action.

This first part (and the last one) is written by Carla Cassidy with subsequent parts being written by other authors. This is a novel way of writing a series of books and it remains to be seen how this works out but this first certainly sets the scene with excellent writing and a fast pace.

Lara has recently returned to active duty in the Crisis Management Team following an undercover operation putting a major crime boss behind bars which resulted in a year being spent in a safe house. Unfortunately, whilst trying to prevent a man from committing suicide, the media splash her face all over the news and her cover is blown and all clues to this death and others point to the crime syndicate she helped to put an end to and which open wounds Lara took a long time to bury.

As I said, this is really well written and is an excellent opener to a series. The characters are interesting and believable, the story intriguing and fast paced but don’t expect any answers to the many questions raised in this short book … be prepared to want - no need - to read the next installment as this one ends on a cliff-hanger.

I was kindly provided with a copy of this book by the publisher, Harlequin (UK) Ltd, via NetGalley in exchange for an unbiased review but you can currently download a free copy from Amazon UK and other websites so what are you waiting for! You’ve nothing to lose.

Tough Justice (Exposed 1 of 8)

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Tough Justice is the first in an eight part series. It is a fast-paced read and keeps you hooked throughout. I read it in two short sittings and am anxious to get my hands on the next instalment!

This first part introduces us to Lara Grant, an FBI agent who is fresh from some seriously scary work undercover and a year in hiding, ready to work this new case. We meet her new partner Nick and the team that are handling this case. We get a gauge of what drives Lara, and a glimpse of the ghosts that haunt her.

I love the idea of what this series will bring the reader, instalments that feature the same characters but will be written by different authors. I'm definitely drawn into this exciting new thriller series and can't wait to see how it all pans out!

Tough justice by Carla Cassidy.
A new job. A new case. A new criminal... ?
Special Agent Lara Grant will do anything to get her mark - until her last undercover case, infiltrating the notorious Moretti crime ring, forced her to get close to the top. Way. Too. Close...
Now starting a new job in New York City, all Lara wants is to leave the ghosts of her past behind. Until a dramatic sniper attack leaves Lara's face - and real name - all over the media. In the blink of an eye, her cover is blown, her identity exposed.
This was a very good read. I loved the story and the characters. Looking forward to reading more from this series. Full of twists. 5*. Thanks netgalley and harlequin UK.

Am reserving final judgement on this until I read some more episodes. Presently, I find it difficult to accept the heroine's credibility. For such an important role in this high level investigation she is beset with too many psychological problems which should have been addressed before her recruitment.
To date her behaviour is too irrational.
