I really did like the world building & would like to see more by this author, IF she can keep from repeating herself ad naseaum.
I love shifter stories & understand that it is typical for that type of character to fall 'at first sight' & that they tend to 'reassure' their mates (& the audience) of how deeply they feel - quite frequently. That wasn't the repetition that bothered me. It was the author's overwhelming repetition of endearments & duplication of conversation within the same paragraph. I 'get it', I don't need to be told multiple times. There were a few awkwardly written parts near the beginning of the story that I had to re-read several times in order to understand what the author meant. There was one part I never did figure out at all, giving up and reading on in hopes it would be clarified, it wasn't. A good editor could fix these areas as many problems were simple punctuation errors that caused confusion.
Another annoyance was the heroine's overwhelming irritation of cursing in her presence, & home. So, while her mates (& their buddies) do their best not to swear in front of her poor virgin ears, they have to make up for it while on the job by saying the 'F' word 3-4 times in a single sentence? Sorry, doesn't do it for me. Neither does her being called 'baby', 'darlin', etc... twice in a sentence & over a 1/2 dozen times in one paragraph make me want to anything more than tell the 'heroes' to stop being so 'darned' patronizing.
I did like how strong the heroine was supposed to be, but she wasn't given the opportunity to show that aspect of her character, at all. Her mates kept her in the dark, 'protecting' her.
There was also some imbalance with her 3 mates. Menage is difficult to write, & it gets harder the more characters you add. In this case Mac gets short-changed quite a lot while Trey & Sully are more fleshed-out. I learned more about her mates' boss, Bulldog, & their computer guru, Quincy, than I did about Mac.
I can see promise in a future series here & really liked the other characters she introduced. I hope she'll keep plugging away and will put out a sequel to this one.
