This is such a great book, that I look forward to going back and reading this story again, and now I am impatient to read the rest of the books in this series by this author. Dark writes erotic, tension filled and extremely descriptive scenes. This is a well written, creative and intriguing story about a young woman named Lacey, who finds herself mistaken for a birthday present and paid, submissive sex slave, while delivering a birthday cake as a favor to her best friend. The birthday boy is a rich, sexy, intense man, who is actually a famous author, yet hides his identity when he realizes that Lacey doesn't recognize him. At first he refuses to listen to her declaration of not being his gift, and by the time he's confronted with the actual "gift", all he desires is Lacey, and send the other, very angry woman, packing immediately. Lacey is a shy virgin because she feels far too "curvy" to be anything but fat. She is also an artist herself, though with her tiny apartment's rent having just been increased, she's had to get another job as a bartender to make ends meet. This mysterious, powerful man intrigues her, and even though she's terrified, Lacey decides to take him up on the offer, and money, to stay the week and find out about these amazing feelings he's inspired and everything she's evidently missed out on. The author throws into the mix, inventive, vivid characters, and interactions that make your pulse race and skin tingle. This book has seriously sexy leading characters and vibrant domination scenes. The author's brilliance is woven into all that goodness to make this a fantastic bdsm romance, and this series a "must-have"!!!! I didn't want to set it down....seriously. I was drawn in right away to the fantasy of being desired that desperately and by a hot, intelligent, rich, dominant man. I was immediately hooked!!! I didn't want to put it down, I was falling asleep over this book!!!!!!!! Lol
Wow! This just might be Aubrey Dark's best creation yet, and I can't wait to read the other parts. Lacey and Jake's story blew me away. It starts off with an interesting twist - an innocent job Lacey never expects for some extra cash quickly brings her into the billionaire's eye. Thinking she's his new play-thing, he goes berserk with need, and has her taken. Soon, inexperienced and desperate Lacey is pulled into his world, and the sex is smoking hot.
This story is like all the best billionaire books put together. It's got the broody kink of Fifty Shades and the sensuality of HM Ward's Arrangement. The rapid fire serial approach reminds me of Deborah Bladon's best too. Five flaming gifted stars! Can't wait to see where this is going...
I'm a big fan of Aubrey's books, and so when I saw this one I definitely wanted to grab it. I thought the combination of dark romance and a billionaire sounded like a neat one, too. I know that some dark romance heroes are "kind of" billionaires, but it doesn't seem to really play a prominent part in the books. This one was different and it was more of a thing.
Lacey is definitely in trouble! Down on her luck, she's got even worse luck still, and ends up in the arms of Jake, who is also down on his luck in his own ways. I mean, he's a billionaire, but he's got some dark cravings, and he's been looking for someone to satisfy them, to no avail unfortunately, until um... Lacey.
This just really isn't good. Or it is very good.
I liked their interactions, though. They were intense and hot to say the least. There's a lot of pent up frustrations going on here, and I wasn't exactly sure what to expect or what was going on sometimes, but I liked it. I ended up reading this one all the way through, then grabbing the rest, too. It's a great little series and I enjoyed it a lot.
I'd definitely recommend these books, though. If you like this first one, you're going to love the next two! They're really good.
This is not the first book that I have read by this author and the only thing I can say is I really wish she had combined all the parts into one book because these short little snippets are not really enough. We meet Lacey, her BFF, her new boss (who may get involved with her BFF down the road) and finally the mysterious Jake...recipient of the over-priced birthday cake and the man who mistakes her for his birthday "gift". It was steamy, a bit creepy and so far reads a lot like many other BDSM books, but I will have to reserve judgement until I have read more of the segments. If you are in the mood for a quickie erotic bedtime story, you will love this one.
**** 3.5 **** "giving it up to a complete stranger?" stars
Great part 1. My biggest complaint is that now I'll have to find the parts that are finished and wait until other parts 're written. I would much rather pay more and have the whole story in front of me. Also, I've noticed in the past three or four books I have read that there has been been a reference to men waggling their eyebrows. Whenever I see this reference I wonder what a man looks like when he waggles his eyebrows. It sounds like something that Groucho Marx would have done. And the books I have read were not by the same author so it must be a new word to use in bodice rippers!
I'm amazed that an author can assume another persona, to explore the darker side of bdsm. The author is so far removed from her original work she has me awed! Lacey Miller was only there for a delivery, but who is this magnificent male specimen? And why do I respond to his commands, he is a virtual stranger HOWEVER I want to please him even though-I know nothing about him! Jake Carville sexy billionaire lathario, Connoisseur of the female form...She is not what he was expecting, but her innocence calls to him and he only knows he must possess her, body mind and heart. But first he need to have his gift!
