This is a romanticized story about the life and fights of real-life 19th century bare-knuckle boxer, Tom Molyneaux. Tom was born into slavery but given his freedom after winning a fight and moving to England to make his fortune. There he fought the best England had to offer but was unable to resist the temptations of the flesh. His fall from grace is well recorded but GMF in typical style has laid it bare by way of 'interviews' with the people Tom was close to.
I am a big GMF fan and bought the book for that reason. I enjoyed it''s changing styles as the different stories were told but it never rose to any great heights.
