......unless you want the hell scared out of you! I once heard an old preacher say, when asked if given the opportunity, what would he have done differently in his preaching career, he said he would have preached more about heaven and hell. Imagining eternal death, punishment, separation from God is a difficult thing for us to wrap our minds around, beside the fact that we don't want to accept the reality of such a thing. This book should compel one to ".....continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, ....." because what you choose to do with and for Jesus in this life determines where you spend life hereafter.
Jesus spent more time talking about Gehenna than He did heaven. His audience, no matter who they were, were all sinners. He made sure that they knew that if they didn't repent this is what they have to look forward to.
God has used this book, along with all of the scripture used within, to open my eyes to the disgusting and terrifying horror of eternal damnation. The thought of spending eternity without Christ has always been frightening but to experience it through the conscience and person of the man described in this book has made me look hard at my life to see if I am really seeking and loving the Lord with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength. I can guarantee you will want to put this down. But I encourage you to keep reading it. This is a book for everyone who can comprehend its material and I believe that the short nature of this book (79 pages) is enough to cause you to look deep into your heart as well, possibly for the first time and ask yourself as the author put it: where would I spend eternity if I died last night?
As Christians, we all need a swift kick in the pants sometimes. We live in a generally comfortable society, and we need to be reminded of the urgent need we have to follow after Jesus with our all. If we are honest with ourselves, there is a general tendency of entitlement among Christians today, and we need a wake up call. The intention of this book is not to scare you into not going to hell, but to wake us up as to what we need to do in order to honor God while we are here, and make it to Heaven one day.
A must read. I have never been so humbled by a book written by a man. While reading this book I cried, I prayed, I called out to loved ones, I thought (a lot). I would recommend this book to anyone. It won't make you comfortable. In fact, it will erase a lot of comfort, but at the same time it will help you to realize how dangerous comfort is. This book has encouraged me and motivated me. It helps us to count the cost. Truly a life of comfort and sensuality is not worth an eternity of torment and pain. Jesus is the way to escape what's written about here and I pray I will do everything I can to obey the Lord, and hopefully help as many as possible to do likewise. This book is great. Special thanks to John Orr, Michael Whitworth and the rest of the folks at Start 2 Finish for this book. Seriously, read it. And seriously, read God's word. And seriously, do God's word (Jas. 1:22-25).
Do we really take the Bible seriously enough? This book will change people’s heart and make them want to study and do His will. Love the Lord with all your heart and soul and love your neighbor as yourself.
I've known John Orr for over 35 years. His passion for Christ, His Church and the souls of men is without question. His loyalty to the purity of the Word of God has inspired many. "I Died Last Night" is a sobering look at what it means to genuinely follow Jesus by examining the consequence of failing to do so. It is my prayer that billions of people would read this book and accept the challenge to study God's Word with a sincere eye toward eternity.
It started slow but once you get into it you won't want to continue to read but you won't be able to stop. It'll give you a new perspective you wish you'll be able to forget. Although this was fiction I believe there's much truth in it. It will go beyond scaring. This is the Hell we should be talking about instead of vague generalities. It will change your cookie cutter vision of hell and and bring REAL conscience of it. I bought great sadness of the thought of those who God has lost to it and new determination to keep others and self from going there. It's a must be. ABSOLUTELY NOT FOR CHILDREN!!! Use caution if allowing your teens to read. I would advise reading it together.
I thought it was a well written and scripturally sound even with some fictional accounts of what may or may not happen to you in everlasting punishment. I know some people only want to focus on the love of God and discount the many warnings that are describing in the new testament but they are failing to take the whole counsel of God and declare it. Acts 20:27 Great job mr. Orr can't wait to read your next book.
