So, I picked up this book because I recently won the giveaway for the fifth book in this series, "Touch." I had assumed upon entering the giveaway that it was a stand-alone read, and now I have roughly four weeks to read books one-four before number five makes it in the mail. Wish me luck guys. This is a gal on a mission.
Also, I was a really excited and nervous to get into this book, since I never even bothered to read the summary beforehand (which I ALWAYS do before I read). I was surprised by every little thing that was given to me; pleasantly so. A first for me, but this book was well-worth it.
It took me only a chapter into the book to understand where the titles come from:
"I was the eyes, Serena the ears, Sasha the nose, Tamara the tongue, and Talia the hands. Bizarre!" Well said, Savvy. And very creative too.
Despite the fact that the girls each possessed the unnatural abilities of psychics, the troubles that they faced were still very real-life tragedies. This is always a pleasant surprise for me. I adore the paranormal, and I was given a taste of the with regards to afterlife elements in the book, though it didn't overshadow the reality of the story. Overall, I was very pleased.
What made this book all the more fascinating was, though each sibling was born with at least one other of the girl beside them, each of them possessed vastly differing personalities:
Savannah: She is the more clairvoyant of the group. She sees things no one else does and is very intuitive to those around her. She is a fighter, both on the field and in the operating room. She is a force to be recommend with.
Talia: She is the oldest of the bunch. She is the most responsible and knows how to take charge of any given situation. She has her act together and helps the girls to keep level heads about them.
Tamara: She is the chef of the group. She is much like her mother in caring for the girls' needs, both physical and emotional. She takes great care of her siblings and has the recipe to create a preferable situation.
Serena: She is the researcher of the group, keeping track of their new abilities and visions and cataloging every minute detail in order to better understand their situation. If there is a question to be asked, she'll be the one asking and finding the answers through extensive analysis. And she's a hardcore reader (totally my girl)!
Sasha: She is the fashionista of the group. She the one who nose what's up (haha sorry, I had to). She the best when it comes to dressing down a situation. She makes light of the predicaments that they face, though she absolutely takes them seriously. She is the girl to call when they are in need of relief and calm.
Together, these Delta Girls make one heck of a team. They are the perfect crime-solving squad with the heart and determination to see through to the future and face whatever is thrown their way. I cannot wait to see what will be in store for them next.
