I love this author's stories! He makes me laugh with the characters' dialogs and antics. In this case, Giovanni, Natalie, and their friends and families are overcoming being left at the altar, having an overbearing mother, and enduring a passion less fiancé. I had to keep reading to see how it would all turn out. Totally didn't see any of the ending coming - hilarious.
I picked up this latest release because I have always loved Rich Amooi's writing. Roll a nice fun read it wasn't But I was expecting in the usual writing of this author. I almost never say anything negative but this one just was a bit odd. Sorry Rich....
This book starts with Giovanni Roma being left standing at the alter. For the second time! My first thought was "What's wrong with this guy?" We do find out what the problem is but you will have to read the book to find out.
As Giovanni is driving away from the church he hears a woman screaming for help because her little dog has escaped and she is afraid for it's safety. Being a good guy, Giovanni parks his car (illegally) and goes after the dog. He catches the dog and returns her to her owner but when he goes back to his car he sees a policewoman writing him a ticket. He's really having a bad day but manages to talk her out of the ticket.
I loved this fun romantic comedy. Everything happens in a fairly short time frame but it doesn't feel rushed. The author has such an illustrative way of writing that you can easily follow the story - laughing all the way. The dialogue is terrific making you love the characters. I must say, written from the male POV this book opened my eyes to many things. For example, I had no idea that men could feel things so deeply. I thought that was a female thing.
I also loved the way the characters happened to meet. I especially liked that the cop was Giovanni's neighbor's granddaughter who was staying with him for a couple of weeks. That was the perfect way for Giovanni and Natalie to get to know each other better. Unfortunately for both of them, Natalie was engaged to Jacks. This was unfortunate because Giovanni and Natalie were attracted to each other but couldn't do anything about the feelings they felt since she was getting married soon. It also sucked that Jacks really didn't love Natalie much. I loved Giovanni's neighbor, Federico. He was such an upbeat, positive man that he made everyone happy when they were around him. Not everyone in this book was good though. Giovanni's mother, Eleonora, was so obsessed with Giovanni getting married and giving her grandchildren that she drove everyone crazy.
The ending of Dog Day Wedding was hilarious! I absolutely love this author and will be reading more of his work.
I FREAKING LOVED THIS BOOK!!! I don't think I've laughed this hard with any other story I've read in the past. And that cute little twist added in at the wedding???? I never would have seen that one coming. EVER! Fredericko was someone I wouldn't mind hanging out with all the time. What a sweetheart.
But Eleonora on the other hand....no freaking way. That woman is plain crazy, and her husband...poor Alfonso is so laid back and normal. I sorta thought he should've been locked up in the nut house after putting up with Eleonora all these years. That would be considered a big plus for him at this rate. And Giovanni's life long friends Stevie and Danny, were so freaking hilarious. Danny the know it all, literally knows everything and Stevie the dirty minded one! I was sort of disappointed that James was not adopted. When he called to talk to Natalie, I thought maybe the author was going to pick that up and run with it, but that part of the story was suddenly dropped, and nothing was ever mentioned about James after that..
I love the fact that Natalie wasn't about to let Giovanni get away with anything. She was one tough cookie, but a tough cookie with a soft heart. I also like that their relationship started out as a slow budding friendship first, before turning into something more. I fell in love with Giovanni from the start, and really...who wouldn't? Even after being left at the alter twice, he's still such a romantic, but one with lots of good humor.
I thought this story was laugh-out-loud hilarious and so heartwarming. I would highly recommend this book to everyone.
Giovanni had been dumped again at the altar for the second time and now all he wanted to do is just move on with his life without his mother, Eleanora’s input. His two best friends, Stevie and Danny, thought he would be better off anyway since he really didn’t fit in well with his last fiancée, Patricia. On his way home from his non-wedding he gets himself in situation where he’s chasing a dog and leaves his car abandoned in the street. When he finally gets back to his car it’s in the process of getting a ticket from a female cop. He manages to talk her out of giving him a ticket and gets home and tries to burn the ex’s clothes in the trash can. But the cop shows up again to admonish him for it because she happens to be his next door neighbors granddaughter, Natalie. After this encounter things start to happen that are straight out hilarious and exhilarating all at the same time. Let’s just say a dog can be your best friend but always follow your heart.
I was excited to read a romantic comedy by a new (to me) male author. I was curious to see what he could add to the mix. As it turns out, quite a lot! Lovable but clueless Giovanni Roma gets jilted at the alter not once, but twice, before meeting the real love of his life - Natalie, the sexy cop, not Precious the dog. Although Precious comes a close second. The trouble is that Natalie is about to marry someone else. Not to be deterred, Giovanni sets out to convince Natalie to cancel the wedding. This is a simple story of boy meets girl but can't have her, yet the humour makes this book stand out from many others. Certain words/phrases are used a lot, but a review of one of my own books has the title 'Erm,' because I apparently used it too much! If anyone is considering buying this book, do it. You simply have to meet Giovanni's mother! I've already downloaded another of Rich's books and I'm looking forward to reading more. Great stuff!
Read the book in 4 days! I must admit, "Dog Day Wedding'' and a bottle of wine are the perfect match. For those who like me are fans of romantic comedies. The end got me as surprised as the begin. Its a easy reading, nevertheless is well written something that can be hard to find in some of amazon books.
It was an absolute pleasure reading this.. light, engaging and lots of laughs. The story is cute & the characters are a bit exaggerated, but that adds to the humour.
This story is so engaging it made me think of people in my life like the grandchild yearning mother, even if the characters are caricature and that is a subjective opinion.. The story motors along as the Car is a bit the star! I love the Dog and the final wedding scene although farcical is very very funny ... An unbelievable story ...but life is stranger than fiction...so somewhere this may be Biography! The Authour brought me joy and I was stuck reading it every chance I got.
