Oh man, if every hero could be like Denver......hubba, hubba! He's enough to make a woman melt into a puddle. He's a big, strong guy that is protective, but he's a marshmallow inside. He's had a thing for Cherry for a while but won't give in because he doesn't want to be one of a crowd. He thinks Cherry is messing around with all kinds of guys but she's just being friendly. Cherry is crazy about Denver and has tried to get him to give her a chance but he won't. Cherry has a problem that comes from her past, but she doesn't want Denver involved in it. I say this all the time, but Lori Foster has a talent for writing three dimensional characters that come alive and stories that draw you in. I recommend this book!!

This is an excellent addition to this Ultimate series of books with the love story of Denver and Cherry. There is non stop action and suspense with Denver doing everything in his power to win Cherry' s trust and to protect from her past. Cherry had liked Denver from the first day that she met him but he was trying to resist her but was not doing a very good job of it. He was jealous of every man that came near her until one guy would not take the hint and that made Denver snap into action to protect her. They had all driven up to watch the match and were staying over so Denver asked if she would go back to their hotel together and she could not believe he finally noticed her. They spent the night together making love and she fell asleep with him not realizing that she was actually sick with a fever and cough. This was the beginning of their love story where he took care of her and nursed her back to health and became her protector against her criminal foster brothers that were stalking her. It was amazing to read about this group of boxers that looked out for each other and their loved ones. Cherry had to learn to trust Denver because she always had to look out for herself but now she had to believe what her heart was telling her that he would be there for her. It was a fabulous hot suspenseful romance that kept you on the edge of your seat as Cannon, Armie, Stack and Denver worked together to take down these evil guys that were intent on hurting Cherry and everyone in their way. Denver and Cherry's happily ever after was a story you do not want to miss reading because it was about two people that learned to trust and open their hearts to love. I am looking forward to Stacks and Vanity' s love story next in this series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Seriously alpha guy - 3.5 stars

Denver, an MMA fighter who is doing rather well for himself, is greatly attracted to Cherry, one of the women in his group’s inner circle, but refuses to make any overtures. A relationship isn’t for him. The entire group is out of town after watching Armie fight and when Cherry is being bothered by a guy who isn’t taking Cherry’s rebuffs seriously, he walks her back to her hotel. Cherry has known she’s in love with Denver since first meeting him and wants him in her arms, fearing to believe what it could mean when he finally makes a move.

Definitely an alpha male, Denver can sound rather condescending, which Cherry objects to often. But he’s also loving, protective and wants to handle her problems, which comes in the form of foster brothers who had made her life hell years ago, and these scary guys want something from her. Cherry is very independent and doesn’t want to involve others into her problems. The story has a great deal of angst both on the relationship front as well as the threat from her past.

Sex happens surprisingly early; very detailed. Most of the other many sex scenes start off detailed and fade to black.

I enjoy the way the author incorporates others that we’ve already met in her stories and even sets up future couples that apparently will have their own stories. These characters are all very likeable.

Every couple seems to have the same situation; the woman knows she’s in love with the guy who does his best to stay clear of the woman who holds his interest for more than sex. And everyone can see the guy’s feelings long before the guy recognizes it himself. That’s an aspect of these books that I wished would get shaken up somewhat.

I swear to god Lori Foster can't write a bad book! Everything she comes out with is just absolutely amazing! Her fighters are just beyond sexy and dominate and damn near perfect! Now Holding Strong is book 2 in the Ultimate series and its Denver and Cherry's story and it's about time too! I am seriously loving watching all these bad boys fall and fall hard haha Denver is no exception and he's just no match....scratch that he and Cherry are a perfect match for each other and I couldn't be happier to watch them fall together in naughty bliss!! It's so steamy and just yummy. And we get to see more Armie!! Sorry sorry Denver and Cherry. Ok. It was shocking to see... I mean hear (seriously Lori writes so good feel like you are there!) just how Cherry's past had played out and Denver's past issues with family. It's hard not to be horrified for Cherry and what she went through and Denver for the horrible situation he was put in I was so angry for them both. But this story shows that no matter where you came from or whatever you endured to get you where you are today you are a strong, capable, independent person and no one has a right to take that away. Lori Foster always puts such very real situations in her books and shows us how each character goes through the motions just like how real life people do and she does it with amazing skill and understanding that it feels so freaking real that you feel like you're actually living it, every breath, every hurt, every danger, every sinfully naughty moment and more you actually fantasize so deep you think it's you and damn if when you hit the last page reality sets in! Sigh...... Nobody does fighters like Lori Foster nobody!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hooked on this series

Cherry has had her eye on Denver pretty much from the first moment she met him, but he has been deliberately keeping her at arms length. Finally caving, they decide to hook-up only for Cherry to fall ill and Denver ends up looking after her. They quickly become involved in each other's lives and discover that both of them are harboring secrets.

Cherry has had an awful childhood and her past is threatening to catch up with her. She wants Denver nowhere near that, but he is in protector mode and he's having none of it. He's got his own family issues to deal with too.

Cherry and Denver were really good together though his bullying behaviour at the start was a major turn-off however he eventually won me over. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the world Lori has created and all the other guys are amazing. Armie is such a walking contradiction, but it's hard not to fall for him. I can't wait to read his book and I hope it's coming soon.

This book lost a half star because I felt the pacing slowed during the period where Cherry was sick, and I was annoyed that Denver didn't call Pamela out after she was spotted with Carver - it was out of character for him and not believable.

However, all in all, this was a fantastic read and I'm totally hooked on this series now.

Really good sequel concentrating on Denver and Cherry. Supporting characters help to draw you in to their world and you can't wait to see if they get their own books.
