When this popped up in a list of free YA book I grabbed a copy. I enjoy some YA book. Usually they're a light and quick read. I wasn't expecting much and was pleasantly surprised. The writing flows nicely. The characters are a bit thin but there's, for some, an okay amount of backstory so you're not left wondering why this or that person acts the way they do. I'm a bit up in the air on the whole handling of the ghoul/undead aspect. It felt too easy. The police officer also doesn't seem to act like a real cop would and the ending was a little preachy like the old ABC Afternoon Special TV anthology shows were, back in the olden days. The high school settings and cast felt real. Cliques of popular kids and the social outcasts were well handled though I don't recall a single one of them swearing and while there was underage drinking going on there wasn't a single drug reference made.
So, not a bad read. Light fare and easy to get through it's worth reading if you're looking for a little horror romance with a moralistic message.
