1.0 out of 5 stars Atrocious lack of editing is an insult to readers/paying customers

Much has been written regarding the inexcusable lack of editing/proofreading/corrections of this book. Wrong words, wrong tenses, missing words and, my personal favorite, the very frequent use of incorrect homonyms, constantly jolt the reader right out of the story.

Add to that the heroine's stubbornness and tiresome litany of reasons why she can't marry the hero and the very abrupt ending, among other things, this book just isn't worth the time, effort and frustration.

3.0 out of 5 stars CUTE STORY BUT A LITTLE DRY
Reviewed in the United States on March 19, 2015

I truly wish Amazon would put a "lips" rating on their stories so you'd know in advance are they warm, sensual, erotic, etc. Some regency stories have warmth; some heat; some like Pearce.... a furnace! This book was cute, but dry & reminded me of a Harquelin romance... lots of talk, no action. I search through the reviews but often they don't mention the heat level which I find very frustrating. They're SUPPOSE to help me decide & not go on & on about a specific detail they didn't like.

Emily came across as bland w/sparks of desire & Dillon came across as wishy washy... until the end. I did like the way the story was "wrapped up" even though it didn't have my desired epilogue. If you're into the genre & can deal w/little heat.... this book is worth your effort.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad series

I enjoyed this book, but unlike the two before it there were lots of typos that kept coming to my attention. For example: sitting on a CHASE instead of CHAISE and developing a TENDER instead of a TENDRE. Things like that with the wrong homonyms. I know it is only a .99 novel, but it just shows a lack of care and professionalism in the final product by being careless with spell check. Those were just two examples, there were many more and they were disruptive to the reading experience. I buy a LOT of .99 novels and I don’t usually have that problem. HOWEVER, the story was good, though the ending was rather abrupt. I felt that the story could have benefited from an epilogue like in the two previous books of the series.

The story was well written and the storyline well defined. The author drew the reader in and kept our interest throughout the story as well as allowing us to experience her characters many emotions. The story had intrigue, suspense, discoveries, betrayal, love, and a happily ever after.

3.0 out of 5 stars #3 in the series

The story is plausible and could have been very good, but the spelling and grammar are atrocious.
I have read a lot of Jane Charles books on Kindle and it seems to me she is no longer proof-reading her works.
A pity since she was a good writer.

I found book three quite enjoyable. I can't wait to read more about these characters lives. In addition, I am sorrry to write, when I was reading, I found some grammatical errors. I had to re-read the sentence to understand. All in all, I do recommend this historical novel.

3.0 out of 5 stars errors abound

Again, as with the previous book in this series, there were so many typographical and grammatical errors, I almost didn't get past chapter 1. The human eye can only eliminate so many errors before that is all it sees. Does no one edit e-books?

Jane Charles is my favorite author. I truly hope she will write about all of the characters in other stories to add to this collection. I am so in love with the plots, twists, and lives in these stories. I want to read more about the characters. Please write more about them.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Lovely Love Story
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 30, 2012

This book is a lovely love story. The two main characters, Dillon and Emily are extremely likeable. The story follows them as they fall in love with each other over several weeks following a chance meeting when they are caught in heavy rain. The love between them is tender and sweet. Dillon is a gentleman and treats Emily with respect. However Dillon's love for Emily is soon tested when he finds out who her father was and his mother puts pressure on him to marry well. With the support of mutual friends they continue to meet in secret. Dillon eventually has choose between his parents or a life with Emily. There are several interesting twists and turns before they achieve their happy ever after. I enjoyed this story, it is a gentle romance between two honourable people. Dillon unusually is not a rake, there are no duels, forced marriages, unplanned pregnancies or ladies held hostage which often feature in historical novels. There are a few love scences but they are not too graphic. My only complaint with the story was that the story ended a bit abruptly. On the whole this is good old fashioned romance.

3.0 out of 5 stars Another good story spoiled by poor editing

Jane Charles relates really intriguing, excellent stories.
I can only surmise they are self published.
They obviously appeal to her mainly North American female readers.
Sadly she can't spell, doesn't have a grasp of the use of certain prepositions, tenses, misuses and obviously doesn't understand the meaning of many of the long words she uses. Her grammatical errors are sometimes deplorable.
Used, I assume, in order to impress her readers of the degree of her intellect .
She needs to 1) invest in a decent dictionary. 2) employ a literate editor.
A careful re-reading of Jane Austin and The Bronte sisters novels might remind her of proper English language usage.
I realise I'm a pedant, but these stories truly require much more careful editing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely sensible

A gentle love story, Dillon & Emily are very likeable. Things don’t go smoothly for them, mainly due to his manipulative mother. It’s lovely to read a story where the hero isn’t a rake & the heroine isn’t an empty headed debutante. The denouement at the end was very touching. I hope Claresta gets her story.

There were quite a few typos, if I’d found the story boring these would have grated but as I thoroughly enjoyed the story they didn’t detract.

I always like series & learning how other characters from previous books re managing, so this was a bonus & I’m now about to read the next in the series

Not the longest book in the work, but thoroughly enjoyable none the less.

I snagged it as a freebie download, but there is no doubt I would have been happy enough to pay for this book, and actually have now added other books in the series to my Wish List, and am eagerly looking forward to reading the other sub-character stories.

All in all a 4 star read, it could have been a 5 though if the author had developed the plot - thus lengthening the story - to obtain a full novel.

2.0 out of 5 stars Shows promise

I downloaded this for free when I was looking for something simple and mindless to read. There are a number of Americanisms that jar terribly - the male hero wears 'pants' instead of trousers/ britches, the picturesque cottage somewhere in the cotswolds has a 'stoop' - and some of the historical details are laughable. The book could also have done with some careful proof-reading, as there are a large number of spelling/ punctuation errors. That being said, the author shows some real talent and quite a good ear for dialogue.
