5.0 out of 5 starsClassic.

An Amazon review needs 20 words to submit. Does an O'Henry short story need 20 words? Great irony that sneaks up on you like a kid in the backseat stowing away on a Sunday morning bakery run to spy the last giant chocolate chip cookie. Eat the cookie.
5.0 out of 5 starsThis is an excellent story for young people or old on the value of service.

The writer catches our interest immediately. this book teaches us the value of friendship and service, and also the importance of fighting when confronted with dangerous illness. Even though written simply for children, the lessons learned have great value for adults.

"I want to see the last one fall. I'm tired of waiting. I'm tired of thinking. I want to turn loose my hold on everything, and go sailing down, down, just like one of those poor, tired leaves."
A short story that is about two women, Sue and Johnsy, who live together in an apartment building in Greenwich Village, NYC, which is the setting for this short story, the only setting, adding an element of intensity to this story that helps to balance the somewhat melancholic, wistful longing.

A beautifully structured, infinitely touching short story which I have loved since childhood and which has lost none of its truthfulness. The chance to read i again, and to pass it on to my children, has been welcome. Th ook shold b in everyone's personal collection.
