Ben is supposedly the middle child. He is a little Er lot different from his siblings and cousins. He doesn’t think anyone really sees his skill at solving family dilemmas, his ranching ability or his wood working skills. What Ben is, is a Dom and that makes him different in his own eyes.
This story brings out a lot of the McKay cast and while there is the whole Dom/sub storyline, I loved how Ben slowly comes to realize he isn’t the “hidden” middle child.

Seems like all of the McKay cowboys like to be in charge in the bedroom, Ben takes it not just one but several steps further, as Dom, unbeknownst to his family. When he meets Ainsley, they both know there's something different between them, but it takes them awhile to figure it out. This book does go beyond the usual BDSM books by examining some of the "why" through the thoughts and conversations of the characters, and making it more about trust and relationships. On the downside, I didn't quite get why the neighbor disliked the heroine, nor why the McKay cousins were upset when Ben, Tell and Dalton wanted to buy land on their own, when most of them had done the same thing previously.

Another hit for Ms. James. I love this series and I was not disappointed with the newest Rough Riders' book. This was Ben's story. He is the middle child and thinks he can hide in the background. He tries to hide his dominant/sexual side from his family. Thank goodness he has friends who understand him and want the same things. He really needed the Rawhide Club and his friends there. However, if he ever bothered to talk to his brothers and cousins, especially Cam, he would see he's not much different than they are. Plus there are several of his cousins who feel the middle child syndrome as well. I'm so happy that there was a much softer and hidden inner sweetheart to Bennett "The Beastly Dom". There are so many McKays to love and Ben was at the top of my list. Ainsley is the President of the new bank and a sub. He meets her at the Club, but then sees her at the bank and they try out a D/s relationship for a short time. This is a D/s relationship more about Ben's need to be totally in charge and not the slave/Master or people into pain type of D/s relationship. There are some scenes that people who don't like to read D/s books may not like, but it's more D/s light and leaning more toward the emotional needs of D/s couples. I thought Ms. James handled it perfectly. As with all RR books, it's about family, and the McKays are one huge family. I love how the McKays get in each others business but they also rally around each other when needed. When Ben needed his brothers, they were all there, all of them. This is an erotic romance so there was plently of hot sex and a wonderful HEA. The only problem I have with this book is that I have to wait another 6 months for the next book in this series to come out. The waits seem longer and longer with each book. I'm not a patient person. This is another fantastic book by the NY Times Bestselling Author and I'm sure she'll be getting lots of awards for this one. Well done.

I was put off a bit by the description as bdsm isn't a major pull for me but I do enjoy lorelei's books and was rather intrigued by Bennettt in other books. Did not disappoint. The sex is full on and Bennett is pretty much in control. However I liked the fact that Ainsley is exploring the sub lifestyle but not interested in collars and generally extending submission to her life. She has a demanding and responsible job and the sub attraction is bedroom based. I also liked the fact that Ben was more fully drawn than is sometimes the case in bdsm type novels. He had reservations about where he was going with his life, he was worried about public perception of his sexual lifestyle which seemed more real to me. He screwed up a few times in the Dom role and was prepared to acknowledge that. Those were the elements I enjoyed, the Dom stuff was the wrapper for the story. That said, it's still great relationship building, hot sex and fans of Ms James' will not be disappointed. One of the better in the series or me.

This is book twelve in the "Rough Riders" series. Having enjoyed almost all of them I was beginning to wonder if Ms James would be able to maintain the high standard that has mostly been the hallmark of these books, and yes I believe that in this instalment that standard is maintained. Once again we have a really hot McKay cowboy, Bennett McKay who has a secret side to him that he has hidden from his family. This side to his character he lets loose at the Rawhide club in Gillette, where he is much in demand and sought after being an experienced Dom.
Ainsley Hamilton is new in town, she is the president of the new bank. Having got out from a disastrous marriage, she is making a new life for herself. Her best friend Layla takes her along to the Rawhide club as a guest. Ainsley disguises herself by wearing a wig, pretending to be a female dominant she is soon spotted by Bennett, he does not believe for one second that she is what she says, he believes she is a sub and determines to prove to her how fulfilling that side to her can be. They eventually agree that she will be his sub for month.
The relationship between Bennett and Ainsley is really hot but at times fraught with tension as well. Other members of the McKay family make a welcome appearance as well.
I really liked the book, it was well written as usual. I liked the name of the club "Rawhide" it was a clever pun.But although this was a Dom and Sub relationship and yes some of the sex scenes were a bit more full on, but on the whole they were not much different to the other stories as all of the McKay men are very dominant especially in the bedroom, it's just that there was more sex in this book a lot more! There were one or two very minor things that I thought were a bit off with this story but that said it is a very good read. Although I would not recommend this to anyone who is easily offended by explicit content.
