I listened to the audio version of this book with my mom while we were hiking the AT together. We had to laugh at how similar she was to Grandma Gatewood!
This was a lovely touching story with her person history mixed in as well as some general history for context. Most hikers should be able to relate to her desire for freedom in the woods and the draw of adventure in her soul.
Some of the history was a bit long winded, but it bounced back and forth from her trail experiences to the history elements.
My favorite part of the book was when a reporter asked what her favorite part of the trail was. Her response: “The downhill part Sonny!” Amen to that!
