5.0 out of 5 starsGreat romance

This writer delivered. I felt the love & desire between H/h. It was enjoyable following their journey to love. The characters were well developed, twists & turns. There were some sex scenes not explicit and short. The story was NOT written as a "turn on" or "sex tutorial" which seems all romance writers think we want. I was sorry it ended!

A well written story, with a smooth pace and characters that just draw the reader in from the first page. The story kept me enthralled from beginning to end. I cared about Arabella and what happened to her. I also wanted her to find courage and rely on the love that bloomed between her and the hero. The author did a great job of connecting the dots, well thought out characters, well written narration and plot. I didn't want the story to end, but it ended perfectly.
Second book in Anita Mills series that I have read and enjoyed this one better than the first (The Fire & the Fury).
Heart wrencing tale of a young woman Arabella of Byrum, who is abused by the men in her life and her sickly & crippled little boy..... 'sweet, sweet Jamie.' Along comes William (from The Fire & the Fury) and the tale continues.
I was a bit frustrated with and confused that it took so long for William to 'come around' to reason(considering his own low birth). But then again, it was still a man's world and pride doesn't visit just the high & mighty. There were other characters, many twists & turns, and all was well in the end!
Looking forward to taking stock of all the books in this series, doing a 'catch-up' on the characters and enjoying more works by this talented author.
Really good book, who wouldn't love little Jamie, his beautiful mother and her big strong man. The best of really evil villains makes for a great book. Tastefully done sex scenes makes it a book I would give to my grand daughter.
My mother likes this author and enjoys her stories. This this rating is what she gave this book a 3 star rating. I also read this book and while the hero maybe typical for his century, you still want to kick his rear end.

I doubt many modern women would survive the cruelty so perhaps it is only being able to read this from the cosy comfort of my armchair that `I could be constructive about the writing. A good story teller but why do we have to the sex manual inserted every so often. Surely there are enough readers who appreciate a good story to make good sales?
absolutely enthralling! loved all the series and read them twice. every character had his or hers own personality.so realistic to the period it was in and very believable. really wish I could follow through all the riveux family until the next generation. well done anita
