Mr. Avera has written an intriguing novella about the future of the United States after a massive and destructive civil war. There are political machinations, militant supervision, and betrayals for self-preservation. It gets a bit gory, and there are a lot of "voices" heard from. The chain of events unfolds in a realistic and frightening manner. I would have liked to see this story expanded in order to become more involved with the characters. Overall, it's a short but intense read - and perfect for dystopia fans.
This is a well-written, fast-paced story that grabs your interest and keeps you engrossed. The author uses a first person approach for each of the major characters, which is very effective in presenting the story. It is well worth the time to read it!
WOW! This novella hit the ground running and never stopped.... and the cliffhanger was a great one! What a situation, what a world. The many characters were all interesting and I became invested in them all in one way or another. Author Drew Avera is someone to watch and you should definitely read his other work. I did and very much enjoyed each and every one.
Drew weaves a spectacular tale. A fallen and divided America split into 3 opposing country states and ruled by a President that is our worst nightmare. For that matter several characters are what nightmares are made of. Being written in the first-person for each character is very inventive form and takes a little getting used to, but once your in, you're hooked.
What would happen if the U.S. had another civil war and it split up into 3 territories? How would the local and federal agencies work? Would we still have our freedom? In this book you might find some answers. Interesting story, sucked me in right away. Told by different views of how things are.
