She was a horse of a lifetime - literally for the many servicemen she saved. She earned this wonderful literary tribute, the great respect of her rank and retirement by comrades who refused to leave her behind after the war and the breathtaking sculpture recently erected at Quantico Marine Museum in VA. Anyone who has ever spent any time at all with horses (God bless every one them!) will be in awe of this little mare's calm courage under fire and her ability to understand and complete her job on the front line in Korea.
5.0 out of 5 starsA very rewarding read. You don't want to continue, but you can't stop.

A detailed, moving account of the battles that helped to end the Korean War, this is a story of the inhumanity and humanities of war. It is about a very special horse and the love and loyalty she gave and received from men who needed a hero. The courage & loyalty shown by all of them will move you.

I'M 66 YEARS OLD AND NEVER HEARD ABOUT THIS HORSE UNTIL I SO AN ARTICLE IN MY HUSBANDS VFW MAG. BOUGHT THE BOOK AND WAS AMAZED OVER THE STORY. LOVED HORSES SINCE I WAS A CHILD BUT THIS ANIMAL MUST HAVE HAD A HUMAN BRAIN.
This is a book that all high school history classes should teach. America's brave military is not thanked or appreciated enough. The War Horse did her job without complaint or hesitation knowing she did her job for all. An excellent read.
The book was extremely enjoyable. I just recently found out about Reckless and was thrilled to find that such an enjoyable book was written about her. It was certainly an uplifting story about such a brutal war. Just fantastic stuff, nothing outlandish or outrageous either. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.
