This book is a page turner and opened my eyes about the sorrowful things happening to animals as a result of human greed. Everyone should learn about these atrocities to broaden their view of the world. It is well researched and a good read. Recommend it to your book club or friends.
As a person concerned about the future of the world's wildlife population, poaching and the illegal trade of animals, I was thrilled to find this book. It was an easy read and packed with interesting pieces of information. McDowell knows her material well, develops fascinating characters and delivers a serious topic smoothly and expertly in this story about the exotic animal trade. I wish more people would read this book and take notice of this topic. I can see this making a great movie. Definitely worth a read. One of those stories that makes you stop and think critically about how to do something to save our wildlife.
From the first surprising chapter this book kept me on the edge of my chair. Lots of great twists and turns. Later in the story when May Ling started working in Kwang Li’s office, I became more and more nervous! Although the characters and particularities of the plot are fiction, the horrific animal trade that is described is true. The very sad part is that now my eyes are open to the reality of animal smuggling in and around KL. I thought smuggling was very rare and only for exotic pets, not that there was a market for exotic meat.
