This was a pretty confusing book in the beginning, before you become aware of what is going on. I don't want to say much, because while you 'know' what this book is about, based on the title, you don't know this story. It manages to be depressing, terrifying and hopeful all at once.
The narrator did a great job- I can't imagine it was very easy to vocalize some things.
As I said, I'm trying very hard to avoid spoilers of any kind- so if you're a fan of dark stories, you need to give this a listen. I hesitate to categorize it because it is most definitely literature with supernatural elements. This isn't some cheap little scare. If you're looking for fluffy romantic 'alpha' silliness- go somewhere else! (No insults intended here-I am big fan of Mercedes Thompson!) I know I will be listening to this again in the not too distant future- it's not easy to find a short book that is capable of evoking these particular feelings.
Oh- and if you're wondering if it's a family-friendly listen you'll want to listen to some of the book ahead of time in order to see if it's suitable for your family. I received a free copy of this audiobook for free from the author, narrator or publisher in exchange for an unbiased review.
