I have long enjoyed this series and this book was exactly what I expected it to be. It was fun, exciting and a fairly good mystery.
The pros: Multiple possible suspects in the case to keep you guessing. Fun and intrigue in a story featuring a modern day murder, a wrongfully convicted man in jail and a treasure hunt for pirate booty from days of old, all happening as a potentially deadly hurricane moves in and forces them to work fast or potentially lose any evidence that hasn't been uncovered. Good fun all around. We also see a major change in Sarah Booth's relationship with Graf as he seems to be lost in his own world, adding another story line to follow.
The cons: The anthropomorphism is getting to be a bit much. The dog packed her own bed and supplies in the car completely on her own without prompting? Really? Maybe someone else has a dog like this, but I never have! There was also a lack of consistency in the writing during the periods of heavy wind and rain that the characters were fighting against. One minute they couldn't hear each other, could barely stand and were falling, the next they seem to be able to talk and stand just fine despite nothing in the writing to indicate weather conditions had changed. These were just some things that I had to make a conscious decision to overlook to keep them from detracting from the book too much.
All and all, I enjoyed this book and will continue on with this series.
