5.0 out of 5 stars As good as the first!

Again, I loved the story and finished it in a short time. These are not overly long stories and are told in a fast pace manner that I loved. I like that each story is set in a different area of the historical American west/mid-west. The story is of a believable nature with ups and downs that keep you entertained.
I see there are some complaints of sexual content. It is clearly stated in the Editors Reviews - From the Author "Please keep in mind that this is not a Christian book. There are love scenes that are rated R."

1.0 out of 5 stars No plot, few characters

I read the first book in this series several years ago, and I thought it was a bit thin on plot and characters. I found this one for free last year so I downloaded it to give the author another shot, and I finally got around to reading it. This one is just as wooden as the first. Everything happens ne really quickly and with very little conflict. The worst thing that can happen is the town's people might look down on this new wife because her clothes are worn-out.
I don't want to spend a lot of time on all the things wrong with this book so here are some of the questions I found myself asking. These kids are ready for a new mom just a few months after her death? Are there any other people in this town? Is his mom a witch who has run off all her kids because of her attitude or is she super helpful and loving? Was the first wife perfect or a terrible cook who couldn't relate to her kids? Is there anything this chick CAN'T do perfectly? Why doesn't she ever talk to the sister-in-law? Did this whole story come about because two kids were tired of eating bacon sandwiches?
I hate to leave bad reviews, but this book is not worth reading. Plus, I saw there are at least 30 books in this series, all with four stars or more. How that can be I will never understand. After two books I couldn't read another one.

As I stated in my opinion on the first book in this series, Ms Osbourne's style is a very relaxing, fast read. In this story, Emily had lost her father at a young age, and with her mother (Jane) putting her lose in the past and starting anew, Jane's husband to be didn't want to start their new life with Emily in the house. Even though Emily has been working as a cook for 3 years with a family, and had more duties then as a cook, her pay wasn't enough for her to have any savings for a new place. Her pay only allowed enough to cover her & her mother's expenses. Emily's employers didn't want to pay her more, so Emily needed to find other employment. Not finding another job that would cover the cost of renting a new place for herself, having seen an ad for a mail-order bride that loved children she went to see Harriet. Harriet had just received the letter requesting a young woman that would love caring for 2 young girls and helping with the care of the home, Emily, never being married and 20 years of age chose to except going to Missouri, as she loved children and very capable of tending and running a home, knew it was a risk, new it was what she needed to do. Arriving in 2 short weeks, and meeting Benjamin and his Norwegian parents and siblings, she questioned if she made the right choice. The story unfolds in a steady flow drawing me in with each hurdle Emily faces, that I celebrate her accomplishments with her new husband, his children and facing her mother-in-law, that is bent on dividing and sending her back east. It's another story that has a sweet ending that makes my heart happy.
Gives the heart and brain a little vacation from the day to day hassles and craziness of today.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really nice storyline...

What a good storyline! I've read several Mail Order Brides stories and each is a bit different. Never have I read about Norwegian families in Minnesota and problems of being able to serve meals that were unusual to a new Boston wife. Emily was a great cook, had worked as a cook, but had no idea about Norwegian meals. Therefore, her new Mother-in-law disliked her. However, Emily's new husband, Benjamin, loved the way she cooked. There were some misunderstandings in the new marriage but Emily was set on having a good marriage, raising her new daughters and making a home for Benjamin. This is a nice story and I'm sure there were many instances where a Mail Order Bride met with difficulties and times when it didn't work out at all. Having said that, this couple made it! Thanks for a good book.

Emily learned her Mother was going to remarry and that she would have to move out. Mail Order Brides caught her eye, so she wrote a letter and her adventure and marriage was brought together. Benjamin and his 2 young daughters completed her life in every sense. They became a very, very loving and happy family. Your portrayal of Abbie and Georgie was captivating and perfect and also Mor, but fortunately she realized her faults and accepted Emily. Your storytelling was very captivating, again!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Very clean and sweet

Emily had self esteem issues that never got addressed but, everything got wrapped up in a bow with happily ever after stamped on it. There was way too much of what they had for supper that day or what chores were done rather than how the characters felt about those tasks. The fight was good and needed to happen but she should have stood up to him like she did to her other problems. Instead of telling him what she was thinking she just thinks about running away.

Bought this after reading other Mail order bride books. Very pleasant as just an easy story, not a literary work of art, but hey sometimes we all want pleasant escapism. Then this book is just perfect.
