Season Vining delivers a surprisingly strong debut novel allowing her readers to delve in another side, an alternate universe to some, one we rarely see or often avoid. Beautiful Addictions is a story of fate, both desirable and unwanted.
"Our past demons can either haunt our future or fuel our fire -our desire to overcome and press forward." - Brandi Money
Josie Banks, both bitter and snide, has lost all faith in herself and mankind. Drawn from the world around her, hidden from humanity, Josie lives in a state of solitude, steering clear of any emotion or being willing to offer refuge of any kind. Broken by a life of affliction, loss and rejection this once jubilant girl transforms into a tormented soul. Josie seeks an escape, a way to calm the storm; unfortunately, her remedy of choice is only temporary and she can't quite defuse the hunger within.
Tristan Fallbrook, passionate and intense -a complication hidden behind a mask. Brains and a bod, intelligent and sexy. Top that with tats and the desire to mend the unwilling is pretty darn terrific! Tristan's character is refreshing, not your typical alpha-male.
Delivered by a raw and intriguing plot, the story kept me pinned and dying to know what was to happen next. The developing relationship between Josie and Tristan is what kept me glued. There was this certain realistic, true-to-life feel between the two. The story dug deep into the many facets of human emotion with its exemplary character development. The narrative flowed effortlessly, and the writing is impeccable.
The author generates a great balance of the good, the bad and the ugly. Romance and pain, fear and loss, danger and regret, love and torture, heat and survival. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and welcomed the change. This is not your typical fairy-tale romance. The author gives us something to chew on.
