4.0 out of 5 starsGreat for the beginning runner
Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2018
I just started running at 52. With the help of this book, I went from not being able to run at all to running a 5k from start to finish (no walking) in 2 months. It has great training plans for different levels of experience and guidance for all kinds of questions/issues that come up. I think this book is great for any beginner/intermediate runner.
If you're new to running, I can't recommend this book enough. Not only does it provide helpful and accurate information about which kind of shoes to buy for your foot, it also eases you into the sport so that you don't want to quit or give up. For example, Barrios recommends starting by running for three minute intervals until you can work up to a half an hour. I remember how awesome I felt when I ran for a straight half an hour the first time. I have a tendency to get frustrated with myself and want to quit if I feel like I'm not getting far enough fast enough, but this plan was just right for keeping me on track. She also gives advice for more advanced runners later in the book.
I have run off and on for years for "fun", but have never had any real "training" on how to run. I've recently set the goal to run a 5K and I was looking for a book that could teach me both at a beginner level and at an intermediate level. [Just in case I go crazy and decide to do a marathon at some point. :) ].
This book was exactly what I needed. The author starts with the very basic things [like picking a good running shoe]. She gives great training advice and training schedules for beginning runners. Then she proceeds to give advice and help to more advanced runners. The book is very thorough and complete and I think even a very experienced runner could learn some things from reading this book.
I also thought this book was very motivating - it really made me feel empowered to strive for my goal [despite being a somewhat "old" runner at age 40].
This is an excellent, helpful, well written, and easy to read "all purpose" guide for women who want to run.
This book is a great read. It contains very specific information on how to begin running, how to choose the proper shoe, and how to identify/treat regular aches and pains and actual injuries. Overall health is a central theme in this book, and most of the advice is common sense.
There are running plans for beginner, intermediate, and marathon runners as well as strength training exercises to work the muscles that support all the running muscles.
Once I started reading this book I couldn't put it down. This has given me a different outlook on running, and I am far more motivated than ever - amazing as I have always hated running. I'm so excited about it even my hubby is getting curious. Highly recommended.
5.0 out of 5 starsSource of information regarding running

This is a great book, I found it to be very informative and helpful anyone needing information regarding beginning or even if your an experienced runner this book would be very helpful. Can't ever get enough information when entering a new experience to prevent accidents or problems, really happy I found this book.

There is a lot of woman-specific information in this book. I liked the training plans (which can be easily modified to meet your own goals and timelines). The chapters on nutrition and running to lose weight were useful. I actually borrowed this from the library and I liked it so much I bought my own copy :)
I am very happy with this purchase. I am and at the same time am not exactly a beginning runner as I run comfortably a few times a month for a few miles but it is not habitual. This book was great as I have never learned techniques or tips about how to run, when to run, what to eat and other tricks of the trade. The author also gives enough inspiration in her writing that I was amused while reading it. I decided to train for a half marathon and I think the different stages of running for people are described and discussed well. There were chapters chapters I didn't relate to but it only reinforced the point that everyone is different when it comes to running and the author is able to capture and describe these differences. Overall, I would suggest buying this.
4.0 out of 5 starsGreat for women looking for that starting point.

I have been using the running guide and it has so far worked out really well for me. The book had a lot of informative information (I especially appreciate the sections on running during pregnancy and keeping safe as a lone woman runner). I would recommend this book to women who are starting to run since it contains a lot of pertinent info for the female runner. The one complaint I have is that a lot of passages are long winded and it takes longer than necessary to get to the point, but thats just my personal preference in reading material. I would recommend this to any ladies hoping to start running, for the price its totally worth the read.
Bref, poubelle.
5.0 out of 5 starsNice read for runners, especially beginners

Great book! Full of cool information and motivation. I am using their running plan and I beat my personal best in 10km ( I am only half way through the plan).
Please do not expect eye opening info if you are experienced runner. It is just an easy nice read. If you are a beginner - I highly recommend this book and I would advice to choose the plan and follow it:)
