5.0 out of 5 stars Fall In Love

I have given every book in this series 5 stars. It takes a lot of qualities and points to earn a 5 star in my eyes. A few being: an unexpected, surprising and original plot; development of characters that are relatable; knowledgeable and correct facts; sharp editing and an overall sense of well being as I read. There are more as I am a strict believer that to earn 5 solid stars, the story must be top-notch.
Every one of the Yellowstone Romance books fall under these criteria.
I love these stories. I love the characters and I love everything about the series. I have recommended these stories to so many people and everyone has enjoyed them.
Ereaders have given us access to thousands upon thousands of new authors and books that can now be self-published. There are a few rare gems among these oh-so-many new Indie authors. Many of them desperately need to take a writing course, study grammar and spelling and hire a proof reader, among other things. Not that I could write a book. That's why I'm the reader.
Peggy is one author you don't want to miss.

Yellowstone Dawn (Yellowstone #4)
By: Peggy L Henderson
5/5 stars

Josh Osborne is half-Shoshone and half-white, which as a young child wasn’t really that big of a deal, but the older he’s gotten, the times have changed. As a young man, discrimination is evident & rampant against him because of his heritage. This is just one of the reasons that he doesn’t ever plan to marry. Another reason is because of the brutal way that his Shoshone mother was murdered at the hands of white trappers.

Danica Jensen literally ran into Josh Osborne in his dad and aunt & uncle’s general store in Virginia City, Montana when she was running away from a would be suitor. Ever since that day, she has dreamt of a life with Josh, even though she knows that he prefers Indian women to white women and furthermore, he’s not the settling down type. Five years go by without a single sighting of Josh. But still, she dreams of a life with Josh.

But an afternoon outing to see the newly minted Yellowstone National Park with a friend and her family turns into a disaster when they are attacked by an Indian raiding party. As the only survivor, Danica has to survive the rough wilderness and try to make her way home. A chance meeting with Josh literally saves both of their lives. But it also fundamentally changes both of their lives. Josh’s mixed heritage has never bothered Danica but Danica’s outspokenness and sassy attitude has long bothered Josh. But eventually he comes to respect her and admire her for her bravery. But their new lives will force them to delve deeper and trust each other.

There are highs and lows and breathtaking moments in this book. I truly loved it and wanted more of Josh & Danica’s story. I wanted to see a year or two farther down the road. I just felt like the ending was rushed or more abrupt than I wanted. That’s also a testament to Peggy L. Henderson’s writing and how deeply she can make the readers feel for her characters.

Reading Order:
Yellowstone Heart Song (Book 1)
Yellowstone Christmas (novella)
Yellowstone Redemption (Book 2)
Yellowstone Homecoming (novella)
Yellowstone Awakening (Book 3)
Yellowstone Dawn (Book 4)
Yellowstone Deception (Book 5)
A Yellowstone Promise (novella)
A Yellowstone Season of Giving (short story)

This is a charming addition to the ongoing Yellowstone Romance Saga. I'm normally not much of a romance novel kinda gal, but this has other interesting things to recommend it and is very well done. The whole Yellowstone setting is nicely documented, the elements of Native American roles in the stories seems at least believable and researched and adds a great deal to the stories. As a white person myself it seems to flow properly - don't know if it would seem so to a Native reader, but I am the reader that I am, and I am enjoying it. There is a unique fantastical element to it that is pure invention, of course, the time-travel artifact - and since the entire series revolves around this, I have to say it is very well implemented and leads to just the right amount of fantasy and plot tension and plot release, as the story flows. I am enjoying the series immensely, as there are multiple other books. I have not read them all YET, but all that I have read I have thoroughly enjoyed and can recommend as super fun reads.

Dawn picks up 5 years after Awakenings. It is the story of Josh, (Kyle's cousin) and Danica, (friend of Kate) 5 years after their first meeting. Danica has been in love with Josh for forever. She sees past his mother's Indian heritage and while others have either ignored or discriminated against him, Danica sees him as he truly is. An Osbourne hero and the holder of her heart.

Their encounter in this book, Danica is no longer an optimistic youth, but a young woman who has found herself to be "with child" due to a violent attack in the wilderness. Josh rescues her, only to be forced to marry her by her father. Their journey of love and finding the man who violated Danica brings both joy and sorrow to this new couple. Can Danica share all of her secrets with Josh and can Josh trust Danica with his heart?

I loved this story! Again it is not a time-travel story, but shows the reader the beauty of Yellowstone and the amazing families (Osbournes and Russells) who take caring for Yellowstone seriously.

This it the fourth volume and will unlike some of the others stand very well on its own. It is an extremely well written Western Historical romance/novel, a bit romance, a bit adventure. With great dialogue and the historical details sit lightly within the plot. Well worth reading.
