Arthur C. Clark is an excellent author. Unfortunately, this book is not as represented. It is listed as 104 stories in almost 1000 pages. The actual ebook contains 30 or less stories. After examining the table of contents, I returned it for a refund. I suggest you skip this one until Amazon decides to deliver what is promised.
Clark is good, his stories are till relevant, and the notes he has added give an insight into how reality caught up with his imagination. He deserves his place among the three giants. I read his books in paperback as they came ou, and have now reread all of them available for Kindle. I envy young people reading them for the first time (if indeed young people still read).
I don't usually enjoy short stories. They leave me feeling cheated od a good read. This was the exception. All the stories were good reads in themselves and I was able to move on to the next without wishing for more, l have long been a fan of Arthur c CLARK's many full novels and can now add this collection to the list.
I’ve been a fan of Clarke since I was a boy, 2001 being my introduction. Most of the shorts were good, a couple I wasn’t crazy about. The writing style though is not really to my taste. Long winding narratives get boring after a while. I tend to prefer dialog interwoven with the descriptive passages. But for the most part I enjoyed the stories from a plot perspective.
Interesting stories, even though written many years ago still have some meaning. The endings are not always what you would think. Enjoyed reading the book and didn't take long to finish the book. Still relevant today for most of the stories.
If you love science fiction stories and, like me, you started reading them with Clarke, Asimov, Heinlein and Sturgeon, you will certainly LOVE this collection. They are some of the best Clarke stories, from his most creative period and though they have been published many times before, I didn't hesitate to buy this selection. It's a real pleasure to have these stories at hand, to read and re-read them over and over. The sense of wonder is amazing! Very few modern stories make me feel like this. I am sure you will enjoy this book, and I heartily recommend it!
I spoiled myself a bit by buying this collection - I've already got all these stories in paperback or hardback, from years ago. But my eyes aren't what they once were, and the new Kindle Fire makes it so much easier to read, and more enjoyable, and I miss Arthur C. Clarke, so when I saw this collection on sale, it wasn't a hard decision to make. Wonderful stories based in real science and a fantastic imagination. We'll not soon see his kind again...
