Dylan Frick is a character mentioned in all the books of the series. His mother, Faye Frick was the first murder to take place when Gabby's soon-to-be step-daughter was kidnapped by mistake thinking she was the Colton granddaughter.
Dylan's story picks up where Gray Stark and Catherine Colton's left off. Gray and Cat gave Dylan information they gathered along the way trying to help Dylan find out more about his past and his mother. He's trying to deal with the fact he feels he's been lied to his whole life and may actually be the missing Cole Colton who was kidnapped 30 years ago as a 3-month-old infant.
As Dylan deals with his own mystery, Hope Woods enteres the picture. Dylan is known on the ranch as some sort of horse whisperer. He's also able to use these talents on people. When Amanda Colton asks Dylan to help protect Hope (whos' really a friend of hers hiding at the ranch), their attraction grows. Hope doesn't trust men, especially since she's really a socialite in hiding waiting to testify against her ex-husband who has been trying to kill her.
As attempts on Hope's life begin (and continue) on the ranch, they can't tell if it's from the mysteries surrounding the ranch or her ex-husband's doing. Each try to keep the other safe.
With all the murders and violence surrounding both of their current situations, they both believe the safest for the other is to not be together. As Hope leaves to enter Witness Protection, both struggle with the feelings they feel for one another. Struglle with wanting to be together and feeling it's safer for both of them if they aren't.
Amanda Colton plays a bigger role in this book than she has in the others. You can see a special bond between her and Dylan.
The story ends with Dylan finding some very hard to swallow answers about his mother and who he is yet leaves so many more unanswered questions that hopefully can be wrapped up in the final book with Amanda's story.
