5.0 out of 5 starsA Tour Guide

This book is a nice tour guide to some places that are reportedly haunted. Now it doesn't really say that haunted houses are real or not. What it does say is there are places that have reputations for being haunted. I enjoyed read about the places and think a good job was done in telling the tales. True this is not a highly academic volume just one to entertain you the reader. So if you like to read about hauntings then this is one to enjoy.
5.0 out of 5 starsFascinating Tales of Haunted Houses (and other structures)!

Having lived most of my life within walking distance of Eastern State Penitentiary, I've always had an interest in haunted houses, especially around this time of year. This book does an excellent job of taking you into a variety of haunted houses, hotels, mines, factories and even islands so you can feel the chill beneath your skin as you learn about the spirits that are rumored to inhabit those places. The book is well researched with a clear writing style that draws you in as you explore the secret hauntings of America. I learned a LOT about places I'd never heard of before, my favorite being the Bitmore Estate in North Carolina, which his distinguished by having had some sort of haunting phenomena reported in EVERY ROOM of the mansion. All around great information! Recommended!
America's Secret Hauntings is a thrilling and scary read, and the latest in Ms. Ashley's foray into ghosts and the paranormal. As an aside, I've really enjoyed the two books in her Haunted States Series (Georgia and Louisiana). In America's Secret Hauntings, Ms. Ashley takes you all over the country into America's lesser-known, but just as haunted locations. The fact that they are lesser-known adds to the creepiness and the mystique in my opinion. I really enjoyed the way she wove the history of the locale into the haunted aspect of the story. This book will make your skin crawl (in a good way). Just make sure you read it with as many lights on as possible.
3.0 out of 5 starsTypical self-published book with no citations or bibliography

An entertaining collection of tales for sure, but the stories in this book are hardly "secrets," they are some of the most well-known haunted places in the country. The book is filled with information and images taken from the Internet. There are no citations, sources, or bibliography. That alone raises a huge red flag.

Things that go bump in the night didn't frighten me like they did my sisters. They fascinated me, I was the one my older sister would wake up when the hall light would go on by itself and she would see "someone" standing at the door. So when I came across this book.I just had to read it. Because of my early childhood I am like a sponge when it comes to the paranormal, I am also a stickler for facts based on research. This book (in most cases)has good solid facts backed by research. I would recommend this book to those that are fascinated by the odd goings on in some of these places. The only thing I wish the author would have made clear first and foremost at the beginning of each section is that these places are /should be off limits unless invited by the owner be it city, state,or family.

I purchased this book because I'm fascinated with paranormal stories. The author narrates ghost stories that happened on sites and locations, throughout the USA, which are still haunted by suffering and restless souls. Some of these places may be visited; others are closed down because considered too dangerous. Whether you believe in spirit manifestations or think they are only legends, this is a very pleasant and interesting read. I highly recommend.
Whether you are a bit of a ghost hunter or whether you just like something a bit different you will like this book. Inside you will find a rich selection of spooky haunts that you can visit, if you dare... The stories of all the haunted spots make for a page turner of a read. It doesn't matter whether or not you will be visiting these locations, it's an extremely interesting and readable book. I highly recommend it.
