OMG! I can't tell you how much I loved reading Slow Ride Home by author Leah Braemel! I was immediately drawn to Ben and Allie's love story right from the first page when these two past lovers set eyes on each other again after fifteen years. My heart broke as they found out how others they trusted interfered in their young love all those years ago. We got to see small glimpses of that carefree love, but it is their present relationship that has just "wowed" me.
I gotta say I love when a hero of a story is a rancher or a cowboy. There's something so sexy about him using his hands all day, working hard on his land and then coming home to the woman he loves and making love to her *sigh* Ben was this man and I fell more in love with him as I kept reading this book. He can't help but remember how much he loved her as an adventurous girl and now trying to reconcile with the woman she has become. The sparks are still there between Ben and Allie, stronger than ever but they must overcome their trust issues after what's happened to them in the past. I liked that the author didn't make him out to be a jerk and that he spent his time trying to have a relationship with her. He listened to her and encouraged her to be herself, that she did not have to change who she was. He respected her intelligence and career and wanted what was best for her.
While I liked Allie, she had trouble letting go of the past and kept going back and forth. It seemed like for every step forward, she took another step backwards. When Allie was able to let go, I loved how she took care of Ben after a hard day's work or when he had to deal with life altering news. It was those moments together that led to some smokin' hot sex scenes that you could see how much they truly loved each other without speaking the words. I really loved them together and I could not stop reading until I reached the end. I enjoyed the pace of the story, the emotional connection, the sex scenes and just about everything about it. What a fabulous start to a wonderful new series and I'm already looking forward to reading Jake's story next in No Accounting For Cowboys!
