4.0 out of 5 starsI liked the premise of this story

I liked the premise of this story. But I found the heroine a little hard to deal with. She took countless verbal abuse from the hero. He treated her more like a child than an equal. The writing though was well done.
Jane Feather is a fantastic storyteller--you quickly become engrosssed in the tale and it's hard to put it down. She does have a few episodes of explicit sex and if that bothers you don't buy it. I highly recommend this book.

Borrowed this book from my library. It was an exciting, enlightening and historical romance. If you are looking for a romance that does not give grit and human nature during an especially hard time of our American history, then look elsewhere. Bryony and Benedict, whose paths should have never crossed, did. I love Bryony and her ability to forge through whatever she needs to do, but she does it without just thinking of herself and her own. She has sympathy and understanding and the reality of the situation. Benedict, though understandably is a little offish. At times, his arrogance does become boorish, but he does have the qualities that our forefathers struggled through. I do love the way the author brought both side of the Revolutionary war to light. The ending was a little abrupt, but it was truly enlightening to know some of the battles and other points that have been lost in our history.
The characters in this story find love even as they are on somewhat opposite sides of the American Revolution. Good story as even though it has historical elements it is once again all about these lovers.
I agree with other reviewers. Neither of the two main characters was likeable at all. They spent the whole book arguing posintlessly about leaving each other. The book could have ended 200 pages sooner and it would have been alright with me. Terrible.
