Melinda Leigh’s books all seem to follow the same formula:

1. Strong, fierce, independent woman ends up in jeopardy in spite of her strength, fierceness, and independence
2. Strong, handsome man enters the picture
3. The two people have never experienced such attraction to another and fall in love in less than a week
4. The man becomes obsessed with protecting the woman in jeopardy and saves her at the last minute
5. They live happily ever after

I honestly don’t know how the author continues to get these books published or why I have kept reading them. Oh wait, it’s because I bought a bunch at one time at a cheaper price and now feel compelled to read them because I paid for them.

It’s not that she’s a bad writer. She just tells the same story over and over again. There is no originality to her story telling. She also comes across to me as a bit misogynistic with these women in jeopardy books.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great read!

This book, just as all of Melinda Leigh's series books, is a great stand alone read, but even better when the whole series is read (that much more of her books to read!). I love how the characters are normal, the person next door types, and how they come across as someone who could be one of my own neighbors. I also love a good 'who done it' book, and these books are definitely that. As an avid reader since I was a child, I've always been pretty good at figuring out who 'done it', but with Melinda Leigh's books, they throw me off almost every single time. But I like not being able to figure out who the killer is, because when I do it tends to make the rest of the book too predictable. I love the way she writes her story lines, the way she incorporates the characters, and the way she carries some of them into the next book. She is truly a great aughor!

Now, with that said, and if I'm going to give a totally honest, complete review of her books, I have to add the part I don't care for. Well, you DID ask for all of it. ;)

The reasons I didn't give her books a five star rating is due to how the lead male and lead female characters always seem to notice the other's beauty, handsomeness, sexiness, figure/body build, full lips, beautiful hair, intense eye color, etc., at first sight, even during a life threatening crisis. In real life, it just doesn't work that way, and certainly not with both the male and the female being hit with an instant and incredibly strong attraction and sexual desire for each other, and with both of them telling themselves "I can't/won't get involved/fall in love", etc. just before they give in to their 'intense desire' for each other and then live happily ever after. And this seems to happen in every single book. So if that part can be toned down a bit, and in a more realistic manner where maybe they don't even like each other at first, that would make the books a definite five star read. The other reason is the repeated use of the word "belly" . It is used way too much in every book,to the point that I now literally get annoyed when I see it. There are other ways to describe a person's emotions other than in their belly.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent romantic /suspense

An excellent romantic /suspense, in book 3 of the She Can Series, by author Melinda Leigh. Combined with a chilling mystery and a shocking conclusion, each book can be read as a stand-alone, with no cliffhangers. Their all a must-read!..............With the memory fresh in her mind, single mother and High School math teacher, Brooke Davenport still couldn't forget her very best friend in the world. It happened sixteen long years ago when she found the murdered body of her friend, and it was that reason, and that reason only, that she continued to teach and coach , self-defense classes. However, Brooke had no idea that her life was to be put in danger once again, when she finds herself saving a young woman's life from a dangerous predator unaware that the assailant just made Brooke his next target. Worried about her only brother being deployed to Afghanistan and fears for her children, everyone is worried that the predator will seek them out. After getting injured from an IED explosion overseas and witnessing his assistant dying right before his very eyes, computer expert Lucas "Luke" Holloway, had never forgotten Brooke Davenport and the long-time crush or the mind-blowing attraction, he once felt for her. Nor could he ignore his best friend's pleas when he begged Luke to watch over his sister, while he was away in Afghanistan. While suffering from PTSD, Luke agreed to help but deep down he discovered that he still carried a torch for her, even though he knew nothing could ever happen between them, eliminating all temptations and relationships of any kind. With the desire and need burning between them, the killer was stalking Brooke and leaving deadly messages making Luke realize that he would have to protect her at all costs. But when Brooke and her daughter go missing, it was established that they were both abducted by a ruthless and cold-blooded serial killer, and Luke will have to use all his wits and talents and play cat-and-mouse with a deranged murderer before Brooke and Haley become his next victims. Will true love blossom between Luke and Brooke? Will two broken hearts find each other before it's too late?..........I loved each and every book in Melinda Leigh's series...thank you..

4.0 out of 5 stars Some Major Plot Twists

She Can Scream has features that I like: reoccurring characters like the retired city police detective and the security system business owner. The sheriff and his secretary are also reoccurring characters. I didn't care for Ian, the ex-husband at all, but I did enjoy getting to know Luke. I felt sorry for Brooke's children, Haley and Chris, because Brooke was so overwhelmed by her guilt that her children came second at times. I grew tired of Brooke's obsession with Karen's death and the reoccurring references to Karen's death impeded the story's progress. She Can Scream is entertaining and the conclusion is certainly a surprise.

1.0 out of 5 stars She Can't Write

I can only endorse comments made in the less favourable reviews about the predictability of this novel, its two-dimensional characters, the pedestrian style, and the inconsistencies. There is a huge plot hole, also mentioned by a few other reviewers, and it is the biggest I have ever seen: the killer kidnaps one victim, throws her in the back of his car, and when he arrives at his house, it's a different girl entirely. Even a cursory read-through by the publisher would have picked this up.

2.0 out of 5 stars Unpleasant story about violence against women

I 'm sorry I did not enjoy this crime novel. I was disappointed with some errors in the plot such as Brooke driving to school but needing a lift home? I found the violence against women really difficult to read. The plot starts out with an emphasis on empowering women to take control of their personal safety and then it transpires that these methods are all useless and all women are vulnerable victims. Not for me, shame as I am a fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another good roller coaster of a scream!

Having read the two previous She Can novels, which I thoroughly enjoyed I thought it was time to read the third one! And it didn't disappoint. A very cleverly woven story of how guilt can override everything and knowing when to let go of past mistakes. The story revolves around Brooke who teaches self defence classes to young women as well as being a teacher and who manages to stop a serial killer in abducting a young girl. Throw into the mix a handsome young man Luke who has always liked Brooke and you have a tantalising novel of serial killer and his love of killing and overcoming what happened in the past. Another good read which I would highly recommend!

I love these books, finished this one pretty quick as these books are very gripping and I have already read the fourth as I started with the wrong book, I'm now going onto book 5 and I'll read that fast as its a shorter book then onto book 6.

I really hope that there will be more in this series as I've really enjoyed reading this series of books x.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too similar to the other 'She Can' books.

I read all 3 of the 'She Can' books and enjoyed them all, but the plots are virtually identical, i.e: Vulnerable but feisty female heroine with a troubled past living in a remote setting, pursued by a mystery stalker. She meets a strong but fragrant-smelling male who makes it his business to protect her. Their relationship starts off platonically but there is a blatant chemistry between them which they try to deny but which inevitably explodes into passion. The stalker is revealed in a final twist at the end. That, basically sums up all 3 books. I still enjoyed them though!
