5.0 out of 5 starsFascinating survey of literature of the "fantastic": fairy tales, political satire, fantasy worlds and science fiction
Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2015
Dr. Rabkin, the professor of this series, presents material ranging from Grimm Fairy Tales to Virginia Wolff, Kafka, H.G. Wells, and Tolkien in an organized and integrated fashion such that the listener learns about the history of fiction as well as that of fantasy, science fiction, and folk/fairy tales. As an avid reader of many genres, I found his presentation to be fascinating even when I had not read all the texts he referenced. I am someone who "walks while she listens" and this series kept me interested for the full 12 hours. If you are a voracious reader and like learning about the history behind the stories you love, this will be a good listen.
