4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet Sofie is just that...SWEET!

Sweet Sofie is just that...SWEET. This is the 2nd book I have read in this series and I am hooked!

Sofie is the only girl in the family so while I have only read the first book, I figured this one would have a different feel to it because of that. And, it did...for me, in a good way. It's just a really sweet story of Sofie coming of age and her finally being able to share her feelings about Eric who she has been in love with since a child. It's fun to see the Moreno brothers and friends as kids since this story starts while Sofie is in grade school. You get to see the history and how, of course, the brothers and friends were completely over protective of Sofie. And, you also get to learn about Eric and see things from his point of view too in regards to Sofie. There is some angst/drama but what's a good romance story without it? I read a few reviews that were annoyed that the drama was over a kiss but remembering who and what Sofie and Eric was all about, this made sense to me and if there had been more of a betrayal, I think it would have ruined the story for me. Sofie is again, the sweet girl with eyes only for Eric.

Now, I do wish 2 things were addressed in the story in regards to Eric -SPOILER- don't read further if you don't want to know...

I would have liked to known just how promiscuous Eric had been. This is never addressed really and it bothered me that Sofie let him know she was waiting for him but he nevers says anything back to her. And, second, I think he should have fessed up to Sofie about what he did in Spain...dancing, holding hands, partying, and he licks her lips...ok, it's not a kiss but I feel like his actions were worse than Sofies and that wasn't addressed.
Otherwise, it's a super sweet story and I will contine with the series!

--spoilers--

So Sofia has spent her whole life unable to mingle with guys her own age due to her overbearing brothers and their friends. Her father has apparently decided she's a fragile, special snowflake, unable to experience life for herself without making catastrophic mistakes or being molested if she talks to boys, and has made her brothers responsible for her every move. Is this an Hispanic thing? I have personally never seen my own friends be this afraid of their own brothers.

I have read Angel's and Alex's books, and while they were interesting, the jealousy and overly excessive possessiveness was starting to wear on me. Alex's spying, and Romero's nosiness & inability to mind his own d**n business when it came to Valerie was particularly galling. I had higher hopes for Eric's book, because he seemed calmer and more level-headed than the other guys. Boy, was I wrong. The first part of the book, I kept waiting for him to grow a pair and own up to his feelings about Sofia, and stop being such a pansy when it came to Sofia's brothers/family. However, Sofia had to do most of the work in order to date him.

A few years down the road, Eric is interning in another city for the summer, and has little time to spend with Sofia. She's spent her life without being able to date, kiss, or even hold hands with any guy but Eric. She goes jogging a couple of times with a childhood friend, (Brandon) shares one fairly innocent kiss with him, feels the need to confess this "sin" to any body who will listen, and her brothers and Eric lose their freaking minds about the whole thing. Girlfriend, shut the he!! up. After Eric magnanimously forgives her, he ends up going to Spain for a month for another internship. More drama ensues due to Brandon talking to Sofia (talking!!) and Eric once again freaks out. Sofia has to spend weeks without talking to Eric, while simultaneously looking over her shoulder to avoid Brandon in case he tries to TALK to her and then having to confess this scandalous occurrence to all the men in her life. Meanwhile in Spain, Eric spends a couple weeks with an attractive girl, getting pecked on the lips and felt up, slow dances with her, goes sightseeing with her, goes to a concert with her, while holding her hand, licking her bottom lip, and even pretending to be her boyfriend at one point. After he comes home and he and Sofia reunite, HE NEVER TELLS SOFIA ANYTHING ABOUT THIS. What?! How is this in any way fair? This is in addition to some previous sketchy episodes involving other girls while in high school. I've never wanted to smack a fictional character more than I want to smack Eric. What a douchecanoe.

I've also read Ms. Reyes' 5th Street series, which I've enjoyed more. At this point, I'm not sure I want to spend more time or money on the overly possessive, macho, chauvinistic Morenos and friends. I like alpha characters, but the relationships portrayed between these guys and their girlfriends are borderline unhealthy. I would be honestly concerned for my own daughter dating this type of guy in real life.

I really enjoyed Eric and Sofia's story. It was a sweet friends to lovers romance read with regret, drama and a whole lot of protective brothers. It hard to really write a review for this book without giving much away because to be honest there wasn't much that went on, but the author's writing style keep me interested in the story. There wasn't much that went on but the story was not slow at all. I finished this book in one sitting and I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

Sofie's story is cute and gives us a look at the Moreno sister who has giver her brothers a run for their money!

Sofie hates how protective her big brothers are. She has to find ways to get around the hold they have on her. The brothers are your typical Mexican Macho protectors. Sofie, your typical girl curious about life and will stop at nothing to get what she wants. What she wants and needs is Eric, her brothers best friend.

In this book we see Sofie grow up, from a little girl into a young woman who proves to those around her that no matter how much she is hovered will experience life on her terms.

Eric is a sweetheart. I wish we could of gotten more on him and how he and Sofie continued to grow as a couple. Their start was rocky and they overcame an obstacle that would have been the end for many. Oh and I want to know more about his daddy. :)

1.0 out of 5 stars I officially hate the Moreno Clan!

Where do I begin with this book. Sofia is a young teenage girl who's had a rather suffocating upbringing with overbearing brothers but somehow managed to eventually get permission to date one of her brother's best friend with the intension of marriage. I personally feel the Moreno house hold have a very backward mentality when it comes to girls having full freedom to date who they want as well as just being friends with the opposite sex. All the Moreno brothers actually annoy me to know no end and Eric is no different. They see their women as prized possessions whom they feel they can control and dictate. What's worse are the women associated to the Moreno clan have allowed this to become acceptable and the new normal in their world. The only character in this story I truly felt for and was actually rooting for was Brandon. But in typical barbaric fashion the Moreno Men blamed him for little Sofia wanting to explore her young teenage curiosity with a simple kiss. I've actually left reading sweet Sofie till last from this series and thankfully we find Brandon gets his own story in the fate series which I am still to read. From what I've read so far I just wish this author would give her leading ladies more of a back bone. She must be writing from her own experiences as I'm seeing a pattern in most of her stories. The heroines have to be pure or innocent to certain level otherwise they are instantly labelled some sort of a lesser being. And once they get involved with the leading Man they are officially owned by them and are not allowed to even have any male friends without suspicions or arguments arising. Even Sofia's mother had more freedom growing up in Mexico with 2 male best friends then poor Sophie herself did. But saying that I also did not like Sophie either. She's allowed herself to become Eric's pathetic lap dog then drags poor Brandon into the mud who's done NOTHING wrong but fall in love with the wrong girl who sent him mixed signals. I'm waiting to read a story from this author that doesn't involve the leading lady losing her dignity by chasing these men and actually have enough self respect to tell their men to suck it up or go!
I'd like to say I'm going to stop reading these infuriating storylines but I'm hoping the author reads this and gives me something more gripping involving more Girl Power!!!!

Sofie, à beautiful sister of the Moreno brothers who has been in love with Eric forever. But having three brothers guarding her virtue from the age of puberty, it was very difficult being alone with thé boy she loves and often running the guauntlet when they steal à kiss and cuddle and not get caught. Fortunately, love is so much stronger and when Brandon who caused all the upset by declaring his love for Sofie to leave town after getting à slight nudge from Sal and be returned to the marines and peace returned in thé Moreno family once more. This is the third book and is just as good as the previous ones!
I loved how it started showing Sophia back in her childhood with her over protective brothers + Eric & Romero.. I loved all the growing up bits best, I thought it captured a beautiful side of how much love the Moreno brothers have for Sophia and also Eric & Sophia's love that blossomed from the age of 10! These were actually my favourite chapters.

I wasn't sure what Eric & Sophia's story would be but the whole cheating thing was really good. It brought on a new dimension of drama and heartache. I really felt for Eric but also for Sophia as I know she really didn't mean to & it was the truth that she did grow curious because she had never experienced anything else...
I loved reading both of their views on the matter, and also how Eric would deal with it. It was great reading about the trust they had to give in the relationship and relates to the real world where we all have to trust in order to have a long lasting happy relationship.

I actually felt sorry for Brandon as he had a tough time, but Eric & Sophia were made for each other. There were points where the book made me think that they weren't going to be able to get through this and I was hoping that they would!

Can't wait to read the next book in the series Romero! Have downloaded it already x :)

3.0 out of 5 stars Moreno Brothers, book 3

Sweet Sofie is the third book in the series and follows the baby of the family and only girl, Sofia/Sofie.

This is a nice short one; it starts with Sofia as a little girl and progresses through her childhood and teenage years and developing relationship with Eric.

I enjoyed the glimpse into their childhood, though again, we end up faced with a cheating issue when Sofia runs into old classmate Brandon while her boyfriend is away on an internship and they kiss.

I love these characters now and though being Sofia would be hellish, I love the over-protective bodyguard brothers, but I fell in and out of like with Eric in this and at a part, sort of hoped she'd end up with Brandon, or at least, not with Eric. I found he went a bit OTT over the whole Brandon thing because of course, it isn't just a simple kiss, it's moments of running into him or him showing up at the house, and I felt he got a bit annoying.

I still enjoyed this book and I am glad I read it but felt for Brandon and feel he was maybe a bit victimised and would have liked to have known for sure whether he was genuine or the antagonist that the brothers were convinced he was.

Well I've now read all the books in this series and at 48 years old I'm a bit past the typically described teen readers age. I loved all the stories in this series of Angel, Alex, Sal, Sofie and Romero. Once I had read the first book and found it was a series I read them all. Make sure you read them in the correct order or you may spoil the story in another before you have read it. I loved how all the characters had such intense relationships and in a way I think it took me back to my younger years when I would have chopped off my right arm to have such an intense passionate relationship as described in these books. My body may be 48 but in my head I'm 20!
