The Turtle Tear Resort renovations are completed & Rachael and Merrick wait for their family & friends to arrive. Secretly they long to be in their private paradise alone. Rachael's friend Shannon comes to the island & immediately is scoping out the men and that is the only reason why this short novel gets 4 stars. Rachael is worried about Shannon & searches for her, only to find her in the middle of a threesome! Shannon & the two men are so involved that they can't stop but I'm sure they notice Rachael in the room. Rachael is so turned on she goes in search of Merrick & is surprised to find him in the doorway, also watching & incredibly turned on. Wow, fanning my face just thinking about it! But the book would have only received 3 stars because I didn't like how Rachael handled a situation with Merrick's family. Merrick is almost retired, selling off the last of his properties when Merrick's sister lets it slip to Rachael in confidence that Merrick's ruthless, heartless father is the one buying the properties. Merrick's father wants to meet with Rachael, alone, & she goes off the island to meet with him which breaks Merrick's heart - he feels so betrayed! I understand why Rachael felt it was necessary to leave, she felt she was saving Merrick's future. But we know that Merrick isn't very mature socially & he is constantly afraid of losing Rachael & he is so deeply in love with her - of course he is going to be hurt when she talks to his father!! Merrick had confided in Rachael that his first sexual experience was with his babysitter when he was way too young to even be thinking about sex. Well, low & behold, that little fling will add a new twist to their story! I'm very excited about this storyline but I don't know if Merrick will ever get over Rachael doing some of these things, seemingly behind his back.
So let me start by saying that I did not care for Taken like many of you did. I think I had to get used to the second person dialogue which I had a hard time doing. Then some of the things that occurred in Taken, I was not sure how I felt about Merrick after they happened. I do not want to say what they were in case you had not read Taken. However, a friend who I usually agree with in books, 95% of the time, loved Taken while I did not. I could not understand and get passed why she liked the series so much, while I had strong feelings against it. So I thought why not give the series another try and I am so glad I did.
Merrick and Rachel's relationship was solidified in this book. I connected to them as a couple in No Take Backs, while I felt no connection with them in Taken and I think that was one of the problems.
Their relationship in this book is intense, hot, and steamy. There is a voyeuristic scene in the book that I think would be a great topic for discussion.
The cliffhanger was really good and I am big on the cliffys so now I cannot wait to read Taken by Storm. So glad I gave the series another try.
Did I skim? No.
Did I feel connected to the characters? Yes.
Do I look forward to the sequel? Yes!!
Pace of the story: Very good. Fast and emotional and let's not forget steamy.
Positives: Even thought this was an "intro" to book #2, it did not feel like filler. Hate that!
Negatives: I am getting tired of the skanky best friend characters.
I read the first book " Taken " & I liked very much. I was curios to know what happened between Rachael & Merrick & how their story ended. This two Books definitely are for grown up. The end was kind surprised to me but I like it. Because it brought the family together.
This book continued the story from "Taken" which I had read and enjoyed. In that review I wrote about having to adjust to Ms. Kelli Maine style of writing, but how I still enjoyed the characters in the story and the storyline. So I bought the book because I was interested in the characters. The first book we got to know the H/h. They didn't become intimate until the last few chapters. In this book the romance truely heats up!!! the book ends with a big secret being revealed. I am looking forward to the next book "Taken by Storm" May of 2013. I recommend this book.
