I have to give it a good rating as it is the end of a long, long series and was excited to read the final book. Frankly you need to be part of the series to really enjoy it and get some (....) closure.
Frankly, it is the weakest of all the books. I am glad to revisit the characters, but....the entire drive of the book (get the Star Rider) seems a bit flimsy as suddenly everyone feels like this is now the prime concern to worry about. Well I guess....but not really.
So they go after him and there is a bit of Deux Ex Machine strategy near the end to 'kind-of' win or at least kick him down for a few generations.
Star RIder's motivations are never explained, which is acceptable in an ongoing series, but for the end of the series not great for completists.
And the book really kind of just peters off. There really isn't much closure of and some say that it is supposed to represent real life. Yeah, I guess. But it feels more like to me that he author just wanted to get it over with and close this chapter.
After so many years of living with these characters I wish just a little bit of closure was shown. This is a book and not real life.
So it ends on a half-step and that makes it unsatisfying, but I look back at all the good that has come before and that overshadows the ending. The bitter taste still remains however.
