5.0 out of 5 stars Manners, romance and mystery!

Clarissa is sent to the Tribble sisters to overcome her clumsiness. Laugh out loud funny along with a bit of mystery with missing government papers and a sweet romance with an Earl. The Tribble's are in top form, rescuing Clarissa from an evil-doer and fending off competition for their nabob love interests' attention.

I've read this book several times and added the whispersync audio. The narrator is excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed her reading of this book! Easily 5 stars as a book I will read and listen to again and again.

** Clean romance with a few passionate kisses.

4.0 out of 5 stars Beaton 's Manners Series

I've just discovered M. C. Beaton and I've dipped into several of the series. Overall, I love them. Quick reads, pleasant, happy stories and well-written prose. Her smooth style and sense of humor suit me perfectly. The "romance" is underplayed and never crude. This series features elderly sisters who are down on their luck. They provide the comic relief but their subplot is a somewhat overdone and could become tiresome, but I'm still in the mood to keep reading them!

5.0 out of 5 stars I have yet to dislike one of Beatons books!

I LOVE Beaton's writing, and the silliness, and also the little bits of history, and the historical slang she includes in her books. She is dessert for me, especially after a book slog, or a disturbing read. this one is fun, and all women from puberty to the grave can relate how it is to be a woman in a 'man's' world. She lifts up me up and is delightful! And Beaton never dissappoints !!!!

Old stories written by dead authors, new stories written by authors still alive, can be just as good to read today as they were when written. Reading about Regency England is my favorite time period to enjoy. I picked this story because the author's style of storytelling matches my reading interest level. An easy story for an easy read.

Yum. What a delicious book. With a heroine to cheer for, a hero to swoon over, and the dynamic Tribbles duo to laugh with, you can't go wrong. A perfect novel from start to finish. I love Amy Tribbles so much, she is so sly. Poor Crispin never saw it coming. An excellent regency romance. Very very highlyrecommended for all Regency Romance lovers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amusing Regency Romance

Clarissa is tall - much taller than her mother - and she is prone to clumsiness. A quick gesture sends tea cups flying and people are knocked over when she bumps into them without meaning to. Her parents despair of ever finding a husband for her but the Tribble sister's success with unmanageable girls comes to their notice and they decide to send Clarissa to London for the season. Clarissa is not keen on the idea and a chapter of accidents on the journey results in a burnt-out coach among other things.

Amy and Effy are not sure at first whether they will be able to do anything with Clarissa until they realise she is only clumsy when she is upset, worried or nervous. When she is happy and relaxed she is the nicest girl imaginable. The challenge is to make sure Clarissa always feels relaxed and happy so that she does not create havoc wherever she goes.

I like the Tribble sisters and Clarissa is perhaps their most engaging protégée of the four books I have read in this entertaining series so far. The story is entertaining with some laugh out loud incidents and it gives the reader that feel good factor. Georgette Heyer it isn't but it is an entertaining Regency romance which doesn't take itself too seriously.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining light reading

Poor Clarissa! Tall, put-upon and inclined to be clumsy when nervous, her despairing parents send her off to the Tribble sisters as a last attempt to get her married off. Set against a background of Napoleonic intrigue and the change from the earthiness of the 18th century to the more genteel (supposedly) society we recognise from Jane Austen, this was the first of this series that I had read. What a fun read! Yes, it's undemanding but the period details are nicely done, there's a bit of espionage in the background, and the characters are engaging and come to life as in other books by MC Beaton. The Tribble sisters swing from good to awful behaviour in a way reminiscent of good old Agatha Raisin (and are of a similar age - but at a time where it mattered more to their social circle) and in a way their story illustrates better than the main tale the constraints on "gentlewomen" of the time.
I have just bought the rest of the set while they are on offer and I'm really looking forward to reading them.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fine regency romance!

The trials of Amy and Effie Tribble, two charming but impoverished spinster sisters, who lose out on an inheritance and hire themselves out as professional chaperones for difficult misses during the London season. Their fourth charge is going to be quite a large challenge.

This was a delightful regency romp and romance from MC Beaton. Just the right thing to read on a winter's day, short and sweet but there are some interesting points to observe in the book about the duplicity of society's rules for men and women.

No. 4 in the series, read Animating Maria (School for Manners 5) next.
