The Justicar, Escalla, Enith and Polk return and you get some character and background this time around. This novel focuses heavily on Escalla, where she came from and who she is before the dungeon crawl begins. I very much enjoyed the first book, White Plume Mountain, but this book does everything better. You get to know the characters but it has all the humour and over the top action the author used previously. The story is good with decent plot pacing. Like all the fancy books the ending can seem kind of rushed due to page count, but I didn't think it was bad. I'll note I listened to the Audible version and the narrator does an utterly amazing job capturing the different characters.
