I have enjoyed the Garage Sale Mystery movies very much, so that led to my curiosity a about the book. Loved the book, but as usually happens, there is very little similarity between book and movie. The book is so intense and more nail biting than the movie. The evil persons and the good people are more extreme and the ending had a very exciting twist. Recommend for young people and adults.
I love the Hallmark movies based on this series, and I really expected a lighter, cozy mystery. I don't think it is a bad book, but for my taste, it is a bit slow and over-involved, and darker than I was interested in at this time.
This is a most interesting, complex and intellectually challenging detective story as you try to figure out what is going on ahead of the heroine, a 60 year old dedicated yard sale shopper. I am a big fan of detective stories but have preferred male authors (Woods, Childs, Connelly, Lescroart) because I thought women authors would be too fru-fru for me. Not the case with Suzi Weinert. Her plot(s) is (are) complex and carefully interwoven yet easy to follow -- lots of action with twists that are surprising but believable and logical with no loose ends or inexplicable conclusions. Her antagonist is fully developed, talented and fully evil. Weinert includes interesting facts relating to the developing story proving extensive research. An added plus is that it all happens in an area of the country I am familiar with as a 30 year resident of McLean, Virginia. I am very much looking forward to her next book.
This is the first in the series. I can't wait to start the next one! I highly recommend this book! Not your normal cozy mystery ... This book delves into the sad world of child abuse during a time when society turned a blind eye to it. I couldn't put it down until I finished!!!
An amazing, intricate, interweaving of the lives of many disparate people, all woven together to not only tell an interesting story, but to also raise the reader’s awareness of some important and often overlooked societal issues.
