That Night on Thistle Lane is by Carla Neggers. It follows her book, Secrets of the Lost Summer.
Phoebe O’Dunn, the director of the library, had found a secret room in the attic of the library. This room was a small sewing room and had the most beautiful dresses in it. The dresses would be perfect for her sisters who were going to a charity masquerade ball. Dylan McCaffrey had given his fiancé, Olivia Frost a half dozen tickets for the evening. She tried giving them to her sisters; but only Maggie accepted. Ava and Ruby were already busy and Phoebe declined. However, the three of them worked together to present Olivia and Maggie with the dresses, makeup and wigs. The two were going as Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn. It would be perfect.
At the last minute, Phoebe decided to do something completely out of character; she went to the ball on her own dressed in a beautiful dark brown dress fit for someone about to board the Titanic. As she stood taking in the sights, a swashbuckler approached her for a dance. The dance was magical as she was held in his arms. However, afterwards he abruptly left her saying only he would be back. However, Phoebe didn’t wait, she left the ballroom. As she passed the cloakroom, she heard a man speaking into a cell phone. He said he had found him and watched him dancing. He would find the girl he was dancing with. The conversation sounded strange and a little threatening. Someway, she would get a note to the pirate. Her sister or Dylan McCaffrey would find out who he was and give him the note. Little did she know her fate was sealed as she had been dancing with Noah Kendrick, founder and past CEO of NAK, a high tech entertainment company. He had gone public with his company and was now a billionaire.
Who has sewn the clothes in the sewing room? Why were they even there? What was meant by the man on the phone? What was he looking for? Was anyone in Knight’s Bridge in danger?
As usual, Carla Neggers has written a fantastic book.
