The books by Labarge make for interesting reading, especially for those who have spent time serving on an aircraft carrier or flying jets. He includes accurate descriptions of the dangers that surround you in that environment. Many of the characters he describes (pilots, CO, XO, Chiefs, etc) are familiar to any former sailor...we may have served on different ships but we certainly knew people who were just like those in his stories.
I liked the story. The whole experience to the reader is an accurate description of life aboard ship, and life of an aviator. The Navy humor is wonderful. The flying experience detail was exceptional. Thanks for the good read!
It was a really good story especially the parts where they talk about being in the Philippines and in the Subic Bay area that is where my ship was home ported when we were on station in the western Pacific for four months at a time.
For those of us who enjoyed movies like Top Gun (F14) this book about the F18 is very enjoyable and demonstrates the capabilities of our US Navy fliers. If it were all that easy, all of us would be doing it. Thanks to the pilots who fly in harms way to protect our way of life.
