I don't like spoilers in book reviews, but to all moms who are trying to find a book series their son might like... look no further. My son, a mature 12-year-old, reads these so fast and immediately looks up the next book! Books my son enjoys reading are few and far between. This is his favorite book series he has ever read; so much so, that he asked if I would start reading them with him. Now I am hooked!

This series has great character development, few slow parts, good moral lessons on loyalty and friendship, and is packed with action and adventure.

I highly recommend the entire series to 5th grade and up (from a teacher/ mom's perspective).

Parents need to know that this adventure/fantasy from the author of the Ranger's Apprentice series is fairly low on violence. Pirates kill sailors and watchmen in two brief scenes and there's one significant fist fight among teen boys, but otherwise the focus is on teens coming together as a team. The main character, Hal, becomes a leader, and the boys in his underdog "brotherband" employ all their skills to compete against other, stronger brotherbands. There's lots of talk about Hal's mentor Thorn and his years of drinking, but he quits in order to be a positive figure in Hal's life.

5.0 out of 5 stars HE DID IT AGAIN

FLANAGAN HAS DONE IT AGAIN.

I've read each and every one of his marvels of books, and though some of his instances are a bit thin, he always seems to balance the malicious and generous events in the book well enough that I'm not entitled to make a arguement.

I read the "Harry Potter" series in four days. But there's one thing I'll tell you; I cried because of the Harry Potter Series when I read it... But never read it again.

I read all of John's books over and over again, unlike that series. In fact, I plan to buy expensive hard covers of every book he has ever written. Why?

Simply because I am amazed. You have no idea how hard it is to follow a plot and keep it exciting for yourself to write!

For an example, I am at a friend's house with my kindle. Who's book would I buy first to read if I can't sleep:

JOHN FLANAGAN, OF COURSE.
Steven King is good, but I don't like taking friggen notes on my books, if you can understand what I mean.

I have his book from the "Rangers Apprentice Series", the tenth one with The Battle in the fort and the large army in foreign land. If I cannot sleep, I read it again.

The only thing that worries me about reading his books is either understanding the terms for fighting or trying not to laugh in the middle of the night. Each time I read the books over, I enjoy the balance of feminine and macular power used in the book.

Katherine had been a great thinker.
This female character is a good person for action- doing. She may not know terms for fighting like Hal, but she can understand. That's all she need to spear those pirates like stationary training dolls with a spear... on a ship... that's in battle... while having long hair.

Yeah, I wouldn't be able to do that ever unless I cut my hair either.

I'm 14. I started his books when I was... 13? I was way too dim to see all the details in the books- (the covers of his last series suck for the American versions, especially on Book 4: The Battle for Skandia- seriously, it makes me cringe) but as I age, instead of tiring, I see more. I see more, and I think harder. In all, his books are genious.

As far as helping you pick out books for someone to read, you should seriously consider getting them Book One of "The Rangers Apprentice" by John, it'll help them decide if they like his writing style or not- or even simply the items inside. Besides, if they keep reading, the first series will help you later understand the next.

Just make sure to get the books in order. I skipped one and was completely lost. I went back though, so everything males sense now.

The covers may look old fashioned or bad (depends which books and which country) but the inside is full of great thought and details.

If you want your kid to learn how to deal with diplomacy and think through situations more, I recommend and highly commend this author's books.

(For the record, I'm on tumblr. Look up Norhacane and you'll find me- I stalk that tag. I've always wondered if there was a fandom for either series....)

5 STARS

I have had this book on my shelf to read for a year. I really enjoy John Flanagan's stories. I admit to having read them all now. Can't wait for next one coming out this fall.
This is the third in the Brotherband Chronicles. It finishes the story line of finding the Andomal that was stolen on their watch.

They are truly a Brotherband. They have faults and strength each one different from the others.
I started the book and could not put it down till I had finished.
Hal uses his mind and skills that he has been taught to lead the band to find the Raven crew that had stolen the Andomal.
This is one series that I will reread again and enjoy it. It is fast paced adventure a crew of boys, a girl and one armed warrior working together.

I don't think there's anything I didn't like about this whole series. It's one of the best I've read in ages. I recommend this book to all ages, male or female. It will definitely appeal to boys (old or young). However, I'm not a boy or young and I loved it! The battle scenes were so exciting my pulse raced and my blood pressure was probably up as well. You'll feel like you really know the characters. Very well written, you won't want to put it down. I'm telling all my friends and relatives, "read the Brotherband Chronicles, you won't be sorry"!

I read The Brotherband Chronicles: Book Three: The Invaders. It is about Hal and the Heron brotherband. a brotherband is sort of a club that you join when you turn 16, it is how you become a man in Skandia. The Heron brotherband was in charge of guarding the andomal, a precious stone, and they let it get stolen. To avoid shame, they left if pursuit of Zavac and his crew, to take back the Andomal. I liked this book a lot because it has a thrilling storyline and keeps you wondering what's going to happen next. It is really good, descriptive writing, I could see every scene in my head.I can't wait until the next book in this series comes out. I would reccomend this book to anyone over 11.

Book 3 was a fun read. I enjoyed the characters and their adventures. They have developed well and the plot is well done. The overall story ends sort of abruptly, but was well done overall. I look forward to book 4.

An amazing book, stuffed full of action, with hilarious jokes, genius ideas, and an interesting (if not very accurate) view of the olden days. The only downside is the slightly lack of continuous and fast paced narrative
