A short, engaging mystery about the hunt for an ancient, powerful spellbook in the remote Western Isles of Scotland. The settings are ominous-castle ruins and dusty tombs. There are villains and vaillainesses, hidden bookstores and old legends.Even some fey folk.
The reason I don't believe it was up to Josh Lanyon's usual great writing is because there was absolutely no chemistry between the two main characters. None. There was no spark, no charisma, no passion. I didn't for one second believe their relationship, nor their later professed love.
Still, I think the book is worthwhile. Read it as a mystery. Or read it as adventure. Just don't try to read it as a love story.
