I have to say that I'm a little disappointed with this book. I had heard so many good things about it but it left me underwhelmed. First let me say that the technique of this author is definitely top-notch in comparison to other urban fiction authors. But other than that, this story was no different than any other street lit novel. It had waaaaaay too many characters and I'm still struggling to remember who's who and why their storylines matter. As far as the main character, Animal, I honestly finished this book feeling like he was a punk. For somebody who's supposed to be so big and bad he failed to do what he set out to do. There were a few moments in this book that just made him look downright stupid.
Some things that I did like was that there wasn't a lot of sex nor a lot of profanity. For the most part though this story was very predictable (except for the spin at the very end). I still say that this was just your average hood novel. I don't think I will waist my time or money on part two.
