Greydon Sommers, Lord Wyndham, was presumed dead after Waterloo, although his friends and fellow operatives continued to search for him. He was held in solitary confinement in France for ten years. Cassie Fox, expert operative, volunteered to investigate the latest rumor, verify and rescue. By sheer willpower, he had imposed discipline, order, and resolve onto his solitary existence, thereby preserving his sanity and forging a strong and utterly honorable personality, but felt unable to cope with his old life and society - and no longer willing to deal with the world the same way. He needed Cassie to help him return to his old life and transform it.
This is not a simple love story. It is intense, with finely-drawn characters and a plot that refuses to slow down. I've read it twice, now, and will return to it again. There is brutality, and violence, as well as nobility and valor, righteousness and honorable resolution. All of the Lost Lords are uniquely compelling, and Grey and Cassie's story is among these.
