Stuart delivers another exciting read in her ICE series! This was not your typical romantic suspense, but a gritty, action-packed, romantic thriller with a dark, ruthless, cold-as-ice anti-hero who will use any weapon in his arsenal—deceit, drugs, sex, violence—to achieve his goal. Much like its predecessors this book was dark—really, really dark…and equally disturbing. In ON THIN ICE Stuart finally reveals Finn MacGowan’s fate, the covert operative who disappeared in ICE STORM and was presumed dead after Harry Thomason—former head of the Committee—goes on a killing spree disposing of operatives in an attempt to regain his position as head of the organization. But rather than killing MacGowan, Thomason had him held prisoner by the Guiding Light—a semi-terrorist liberation army—in the war-torn South American country of Callivera for the past three years. And the Irishman is out for blood! Overall, ON THIN ICE was a well-written, fast-paced, dark romantic thriller. My only gripe was that there were numerous typos throughout the book—something an editor or proofreader should have easily caught.
This is an amazing conclusion to the Ice seemed with the Committee finding their operative, Finn McGowan who was being held captive by the Guiding Light terrorists for three years until he escaped taking a missionary teacher, Beth Pennington with him who was going to pay him down the mountain to freedom. They also took a long Dylan, a teenager who was abandoned by his family. This is an action packed love story as Beth and Finn actually fall in love for the first time in their lives and he saves her and Dylan time after time by killing the Guiding Light gang and even CIA paid mercenaries sent to kill him. Peter felt guilty for leaving him without looking for him but the Committee was so short staffed when Isobel and Killian went in hiding from the CIA who wanted him dead. Peter was determined to make it up to Finn even though he was told McGowan was out to kill him for it. Beth, McGowen, and Dylan faced one obstacle after another on their way to freedom but the Committee came through in the end after Peter and Finn worked out their differences. It was amazing how they took out Barringer, the CIA boss who wanted to use Finn to bait Isobel and Lillian so he could kill him because you do not leave the CIA alive. All ends well as Beth and McGowan get their happily ever after and Peter inherits another son, Dylan, along with Killian's teenager charge besides his two baby daughter's that Genny and he were blessed with. Peter was left to run the Committee and no more field work for him. Isobel and Lillian reinvented themselves and now we're able to love a normal life out in the open with a new baby girl after they declared Serafin, Killian officially dead and now with a new identity. All ended right in the world with Peter happy with his extended family, Beth and McGowan on their honeymoon and the Committee once again running smoothly. This was an amazing series
