Like a lot of western story lovers I have become quite a fan of novels by Louis L’Amour.
I have recently been interested in the four Hopalong Cassidy novels written by Louis L’Amour and this one (The Rustlers of West Fork) was the first in the series. This fantastic story was a real page turner and is full of the kind of action we have come to expect from a true master of western story tellers.
I was a fan of the T.V. series of Hopalong Cassidy with the silver haired William Boyd. The all black outfit he wore with two flashing guns and riding his white horse Topper he was one of my favorite of the old time cowboys. This 259 page novel really captures the character of Hopalong and this wonderful story is about, good guys, bad guys, loyalty, friendship and betrayal.
This tale begins with Hopalong getting fifteen thousand dollars out of the bank, which belonged to Hopalong’s good friend Buck. Unknown to Hoppy at this time he was being observed by an owl hoot taking the money from the bank. The vicious criminal and his friends intend to rob Hopalong when he leaves town. Fortunately, Hoppy finds out those three hard cases have been watching him.
I never like to give away too much when reviewing a novel and spoil it for the reader. I will tell you that Hoppy is too smart and too fast with his guns to allow three criminals to take advantage of him.
If you like Hopalong Cassidy and the writer Louis L’Amour, you will enjoy reading this fast paced page turning western novel.
